The Hams (همس) letters are soft and described as weak and voiceless that can be uttered under ones breath. The breath continues to flow especially when the letter is saakin. The hams letters are: [فحثه شخص سكت] E.g. the ك in ْقبلك and the ف in مفْلحون. Hams: the air will continue to flow with these letters and it becomes more apparent when these letters are sakin. 🔍 Deeper Analysis of Hams (whisper or voicelessness) Hams is the lack of clarity in the sound due to the openness and stillness of the vocal cords and the weak reliance on the makhraj. This causes a lot of breath to flow with the hams letters. Hams will make those letters sound clear. From the Hams letters, the following have the characteristic called Rikhwah (رخوة). Rikhwah means that the sounding of the letter continues to flow when these letters are sakin: [فحثه شخص س] The Rakhawah letters are: { ث، ح، خ، ذ، ز، س، ش، ص، ض، ظ، غ، ف، ه} 💯 Be a Tajweed Expert: ❗️Do not exaggerate in the hams, especially in the ت as some reciters do generating a س. ❗️The letter ت in the word *انعمت* is often overlooked and pronounced very weak by giving it too much hams همس, consequently sounding like seen a س, which is hugely incorrect. The correct way is to pronounce it strong and hard with شدّة (cease of breath). 📝 Note that hams همس (flowing of breath and air) is only active and clear when the letter is saakin. ❗️Pay extra attention to the hams of the ف, especially when it comes in the middle or beginning of the word. Also note that the fa has the most hams among all of the hams letters. ⚠️ A common mistake: Some people do not apply the hams or keep it very unheard in these two letters ك and ت because they think it is impossible to apply both the imprisonment of the sound (shiddah) and the flowing of the breath (hams) at the same time. It is correct that we cannot apply shiddah and hams at the exact time. This is why we apply shiddah first and then hams right after it.
