Do you think you have proximal hamstring tendinopathy? Try this easy at home test! Use a chair or table that’s around 18 inches. Set yourself up so your knee and hip are at 90 degrees flexion. Then dig your heel down into the chair/table. Start light then gradually increase the pressure. If this reproduces pain around your sit bone then you likely have proximal hamstring tendinopathy. Especially if you have pain sitting and with hip hinge movements like deadlifts and deep lunges. To rehab this start with hamstring exercises that place your hip in a neutral position! Like eccentric hamstring curls, prone banded hamstring curls and glute bridges. And make sure you avoid icing/stretching the hamstring and prolonged sitting! #hamstring #hamstringworkout #sportsrehab #runningphysio #tendon

✨Runners, if you have consistent tightness or pain in your hamstrings during or after runs then you need to focus on strengthening them! 🧠 When a muscle is weak our nervous system likes to keep that muscle in a state of increased tone as a way to stabilize and protect. Also, if your hamstrings are not prepared for the amount of load you are placing on them during a run then this could lead to them feeling tight and fatigued during a run. Try these 3 exercises to improve hamstring strength & tightness! 1. Single leg RDLs (if this are too difficult start with B stance RDLs): RDL variations are great for strengthening the hamstrings and also improving hamstring mobility. I recommend trying to sets of 8 reps. 2. Long lever bridge with elevated leg: this exercise is great for improving strength both proximally & distally. I recommend trying 3 sets of 8-10 reps each leg. 3. Banded hamstring PNF: PNF exercises use a contract/relax method that can decrease the sensation of “tightness” in the muscle. PNF training is not the best option for building strength, but when combined with strength training it can be very beneficial. I recommend trying 3 sets of 10 reps each leg. Give these a try & let me know what you think!😊 #physicaltherapy #physicaltherapist #running #runnersofinstagram #strengthtraining #hamstringtightness #hamstring #run #movementismedicine #workout #strengthtrainingforrunners

🚫 Stretching might not be as effective as you think… One common reason hamstrings can become tight is to make up for weakness. This can also explain why the effects of stretching may not last. Instead, adding in strengthening exercises can be a great way to improve long term mobility and decrease tightness ☝🏽 ✅ This simple heel lift teaches your hamstrings to contract + relax, helping them move better and feel less stiff. Try it before your next walk or workout—you’ll feel the difference! 🔥 #hamstrings #mobility #legstrength #legstretches #adventurealive #stretches #hamstring #physicaltherapist #physicaltherapy #stretching Not medical advice. Try at your own risk.

Many people think tight hamstrings are just a flexibility problem—but it’s more complex. Tightness usually comes from a mix of: • 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘤𝘭𝘦 𝘪𝘮𝘣𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦: Weak glutes or quads make hamstrings overwork. • 𝘕𝘦𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯: The sciatic nerve can restrict mobility. • 𝘑𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴: Limited hip or ankle mobility can make hamstrings feel “short.” • 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘺𝘭𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴: Sitting keeps hamstrings in a shortened position. Stretching alone isn’t enough. You need moves that warm up, strengthen, stretch, and glide the nerve for safe, functional lengthening. 𝟲 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀: 1️⃣ 𝘌𝘭𝘦𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘌𝘭𝘦𝘱𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘞𝘢𝘭𝘬𝘴 – Activates hamstrings and wakes up the posterior chain. 2️⃣ 𝘏𝘢𝘭𝘧 𝘚𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘗𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘵 & 𝘍𝘭𝘦𝘹 – Lengthens hamstrings while improving ankle mobility. 3️⃣ 𝘏𝘢𝘭𝘧 𝘚𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘴 → Low Lunge – Smooth transitions to open hips safely. 4️⃣ 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘏𝘢𝘮𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘕𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦 𝘎𝘭𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘴 – Mobilizes the sciatic nerve. 5️⃣ 𝘏𝘢𝘮𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘨𝘦 – Strengthens hamstrings, glutes, and supports the lower back. 6️⃣ 𝘗𝘺𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘥 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘏𝘪𝘱 𝘏𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘦 – Builds functional hamstring length and improves posture. ✅ Pro Tip: Consistency > depth. Practice these regularly, focus on control, and your hamstrings will feel longer, stronger, and less tight. . . . #hamstrings #hamstringstretch #flexibility #mobility #yoga yogapractice stretchingexercises mobilitytraining fitnessmotivation bodyawareness functionaltraining movementismedicine stretchdaily yogainspiration healthybody
