Helix piercings can be one of the hardest piercings to heal! Here are the top 3 things you should and should not be doing in order to get them to heal better!❤️‍🩹 1. DO NOT TOUCH THEM: I have clients come in wondering why it won’t heal as they are touching and twisting it with their unwashed hands. The germs on our hands is the number one way to cause irritation or infections. I know touching is one of the hardest things. But trust me. It’s not worth it.🙏🏼 2.DO NOT SLEEP ON THEM: I’m not talking about just for a couple of days or weeks. For the WHOLE healing period. Which is about 9-12 months.Sleeping on your piercings can make them very irritated and painful. 3. PLEASE DOWNSIZE THE POST: This is crucial with helix piercings. A piercing is pierced with a long post to accommodate swelling. In about 2-6 weeks when the swelling goes down, you need to downsize it. A lot of people are also not aware of this and how much it can prolong your healing if you don’t. Helix is a commitment. You definitely want to baby it & I am more than happy to help❤️

Because it’s on the outer edge of your ear, it’s constantly exposed to things like your pillow, headphones, hair, phone, etc. All that pressure + friction = irritation Healing a helix can take 6 months to a year (sometimes longer!) and it’s totally normal to deal with swelling, tenderness, or those stubborn little bumps along the way but you want to avoid it! ✨Tip: sleeping on a travel pillow, keeping your hair away, and avoiding constant jewellery changes can make a world of difference. Here’s all that you need to know about the helix piercing - If you are genetically predisposed towards keloids, then the helix piercing is not for you. Still if you need to try, you can always go to a professional body piercer / dermatologist to keep it safe. Helix piercing can be painful than the normal ear piercing. Keep the area clean by doing saline washes. Or piercing spray .Don’t put oil on helix piercing. Don’t use a Betadine or iodine or alcohol swabs to clean, as these may irritate the wound and cause more damage, Wash it with plain water. keep the area dry and use piercing spray or what your piercer suggests for how many days. Don’t change the earring until the cartilage is completely healed. That is almost for four weeks minimum. If you change it before that you may introduce new trauma and new infection on that area, leading to earlobe swelling and keloid Be careful while you sleep on that side, don’t let your hair loose so that it may tangle between the ear studs. Don’t get a helix piercing…

Just like everything else in life, there’s no perfect timeline for healing – so many things can impact the way we heal like immune system, lifestyle, accidents like snags, hydration, and more 💜 if you’ve ever been to a doctor for literally any type of injury or illness, you’ll know that their timelines are always a range and your piercings are no different. When looking online, you’ll see SO much variance with healing timelines. We have your mall shop/piercing gun/accessory stores claiming full healing in like .2 seconds while so many other sources say anywhere from a few weeks to a year or more That being said, determining how healed a piercing is at home can be a bit tricky. When in doubt, you can always visit your closest reputable piercer! At home, you can gauge healing off of time you’ve had it, sensitivity, and reactivity.
