MAKING TRAVEL FRIENDS 👯‍♂️ Going away solo is daunting, because - unless you’re ready to embrace your inner hermit - it forces you to rely on strangers for company. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here are a few tips to overcome that initial awkwardness when meeting people in hostels (or elsewhere!): ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1️⃣ Attend group events 🛼 I’m talking walking tours, speed dating, language exchanges, pub crawls, cooking classes…. Making Travel Friends 🌍👩🏼‍🤝‍👩🏻 Making friends solo travelling can be so daunting, trust me I know how you feel. Remember, you will be surrounded by a lot of likeminded people!! Don’t stress 🥰 But, here are my best tips to make friends solo travelling ⬇️⬇️ 🧠Change your mindset I’m sick of hearing people say they are “not extroverted enough” or they “suck at making friends”. Stop riding yourself off before you even get there? Do you think I was a confident, social person when I started? Absolutely not! Remember that not everyone will wanna be your friend but that is not a reflection of you (get over your fear of rejection) 🏠Stay in social hostels The key word here is SOCIAL. Staying in just any hostel aint gonna cut it. You need to pick hostels that are known for being social. Get recommendations from other travellers and read the reviews before you book somewhere! ☁️Be open Take out your headphones, smile, say hello, have open body language. This is especially important if you are not confident approaching people. By doing this, people are more likely to come to you 💫Volunteer This is the best thing yoou can do to ease into travelling! Its great to make strong bonds with others because you can really take your time to get to now them. SORRY IF THIS MIGHT UPSET YOU 🫪✨ - These are 6 things we do while traveling that people constantly question: - 1️⃣ We hitchhike instead of taking public transport 🚗 Yes, it’s a mode of transportation that’s usually free but that’s honestly just a bonus! What we really love is how it pulls us out of the tourist bubble. You meet people you would’ve never met otherwise, hear stories you’d never hear and see places through a completely different lens! - 2️⃣ We avoid flying as much as possible! ✈️ We know traveling itself is already very CO2 intensive…so this is our way of at least trying to reduce our impact a bit. From 2022-2024 we made it all the way from Austria to Argentina without a single flight. We personally think that travel influencers/content creators that do like 20+ flights a year and blast about that fact are wack :) - 3️⃣ We live on 5€ a day 💰 We actually started with this budget so we could travel as long as possible on our first world trip but somewhere along the way, it became our routine. And once we realized how easy and fun low-budget travel can be…we just stuck with it! - 4️⃣ We don’t do hotels or hostels 🤫 Instead, we stay with locals or find hosts through Couchsurfing. Local ppl turning into friends >>> a lot of international travel acquaintances - 5️⃣ We’re not city people! No hate…but Dubai? 😅 Give us mountains, forests and places where you can actually hear yourself think! - 6️⃣ We travel to places most people wouldn’t ⚠️ Yes, even countries like Afghanistan. Not to be reckless but to understand, to learn and to see beyond headlines! - PS: We’re not saying this is the right way to travel. It’s just our way. And honestly?
