Five of the Dart Frog exhibits we built for the @buttonwoodparkzoo in Massachusetts. These will be open to the public in their new Animal Ambassador building starting 10/4/25! 🙂 They'll look even better once they grow in a bit over at the Zoo. The Poison Dart Frogs are loving their new homes so far. Special thanks to the awesome team at Buttonwood for choosing the NE HERP team for these enclosures. We had a blast building them! For DIY Vivarium enthusiasts looking to create similar epic ecosystems, all these were built using NEHERP plants, kits, and supplies in @exoterra / @exoterrausa enclosures. The cool rear-opening feature allows Zookeepers to access the units from behind, through modified background-mounted doors. We started with our NE HERP kits for Substrates, Backgrounds, Live Plants, and Lighting. The backrounds were further improved with our heat treated NEHERP Grade Ghostwood, and the plant selection improved with some of our higher-end species. All in all, we're loving how these came out, and we hope the work inspires people to support the Buttonwood Zoo, and maybe learn more about building your own vivariums. Geckos galore 🦎 so many babies are hatching this time of year and every day is a new surprise in the incubator. For the tropical micros I incubate using wet vermiculite and a bottle cap of dry sphagnum (I have also used dry sand). This way the eggs have a humid environment without being in direct contact with moisture. For the desert micros, just leaving them in dry sand is perfectly enough. From here, they’ll get set up, fed and watered, and eventually find new homes once they put on some more size. Thanks to my friends at @zoomedlabs for letting me try out one of their new ReptiSun LED UVB lights. This combo hood has a timer you can set with automated sunrise and sunset cycles. Of course the LEDs for viewing and happy plant growth, and the UVB for happy lizard growth! This world record enclosure of the most tarantulas sharing one home is something I’m very honored to have helped with and have to thank my friend Aram of @urbantarantulas for including me! These M. balfouri are one of the only communal species of spider that get along in a giant communal colony like this. We built a nice and simple background so that this communal had some nice areas to climb on and share. Nothing too fancy because remember these tarantuals will cover this whole enclosure in white web in just a few days, and Aram will need to periodically go in this enclosure and clean it out. So an over the top background with crazy hardscape and bioactive doesnt make much sense for this build. When b uilding an enclosure, it is definelty best to build with the animal(s) in mind first, and what will best fit their needs, as well as what will best dispaly them. This @zoomedlabs enclosure is a new size by them that is perfect for terrestrial set ups like these. The light along with fogger definitely add a lot to the overall moodiness and vibe of the enclosure as well. These amphibians come from forests all over the European continent, so ferns and mosses were a must. Though not very aquatic at this stage, they will still definitely use the water area provided. A lot of preparation and work went into an enclosure like this, but in the end it is so worth it. Having access to a lot of moss was definitely the key to making this enclosure look “aged”. I so enjoy these little salamanders, as they’re basically moist lizards. But who said HerpTime only does lizards, it’s in the name! Building the ConsHerpVan – Our 4×4 Ford Transit Adventure Home We’ve made a short video showing how our ConsHerpVan came to life, from the first idea to the finished all-wheel-drive Ford Transit camper. This project was a true self-build. It took us more than half a year just to find the right van, and the entire build lasted around a year, with about three months of intense work. Before starting, we did a huge amount of research by visiting van life meetups, studying layouts, materials, and equipment, and learning everything we could about off-grid living on wheels. Designing and sourcing the right materials, tools, and components was a real challenge, but also one of the most rewarding parts of the process. We learned so much along the way. We’re incredibly grateful to our family and friends who helped us through the different stages of the build, from carpentry to wiring and insulation. We have now been living in the van for six months, travelling more than 18,000 kilometres across 16 countries. Everything has worked perfectly, and no modifications have been needed so far. We’re also very happy that our old dog Ottó is travelling with us and enjoying van life just as much as we do. First official frog 🐸 post on HerpTime? You know it 🙌 This next @reptilesupershow I plan to bring many different captive bred species of frogs, and so many other vendors will as well, per usual! Fun video just showing off some frogs I enjoy and the goofy vocalizations they make. These are just a few of the species I’ve started working with in the past year. This is HERP-time after all, and frogs are definitely herps… and it is ALWAYS HerpTime! Rescue mission I wasn’t expecting Hadn’t seen any signs of the levis levis for 12 days, But what got me worried was he hadn’t eaten his last two feeds of crickets which never happens. Not 100% sure but it looks like one of his tunnels had collapsed, the tunnel was fairly intact after where I suspected it had collapsed. The sand was still fairly moist so I’m still unsure if it had collapsed at all.
