This is what burnout really looks like when you’re high functioning: You don’t fall apart — you just go quiet. You keep working, keep showing up, keep being “fine.” But your body is telling the truth you’ve been trained to ignore. Burnout looks like: • Feeling wired and exhausted at the same time • Snapping at the people you love • Overthinking every little thing • Being so overstimulated you go from zero to 100 in seconds • Carrying stress so long it feels normal • Holding everything together while your nervous system is barely coping If you’re reading this thinking, “Yep… that’s me,” you’re not broken — you’re burnt out. And you deserve support that actually works with your nervous system, not against it. Around here, we don’t shame you for coping the only way you’ve ever known. We rebuild your regulation, your capacity, your calm — from the inside out. Gently. Safely. With breathwork that helps you stop acting calm, start feeling it. Burnt out, but still showing up like nothing’s wrong. This is what high-functioning anxiety and career burnout often look like from the outside :capable, composed, productive…and quietly exhausted. So many women in high-pressure jobs come to therapy asking: Why am I burnt out but successful? Why don’t I feel better even though my life is good? Because burnout isn’t about weakness or poor coping. It’s what happens when your nervous system has been always on for too long - prioritizing performance, approval, and productivity over rest. As a therapist in NYC, I see this pattern constantly in overachievers and professionals who feel stuck between ambition and exhaustion. Healing burnout isn’t about doing more. It’s about nervous system regulation, boundaries at work, and learning how to slow down safely - without guilt. If this reel felt familiar, your body might be asking for something different. ✨ Follow me @talkingwithmorgan for more on anxiety & burnout 🚫 Instagram is not a substitute for therapy. You’re a killer at work…. You show up. You get things done. So on paper, you’re successful! But inside? You feel exhausted, irritable, and like something’s off. Here are 10 signs you might be in high-functioning burnout: 1. You’re constantly numbing out…reaching for caffeine, scrolling your phone, or zoning out just to get through the day because everything feels exhausting. 2. Rest feels impossible…even on weekends, your mind is racing through emails, tasks, or what’s next on your to-do list. 3. You’ve lost joy in things that used to energize you…hobbies, workouts, or friends feel like chores instead of fun. 4. You snap at loved ones or colleagues over small things…a spilled cup or a snarky comment sets you off 5. You feel guilty for slowing down…even a five-minute break triggers thoughts like, “I should be doing more.” 6.You’re constantly anxious or on edge…heart racing at nothing, stomach tight, feeling like something’s about to go wrong. 7. You overthink everything…from work emails to weekend plans, your brain never stops turning every detail over. 8. You minimize your wins…finishing a big project or hitting a goal still leaves you thinking, “Was that enough?” 9. Your body feels tense, restless, or out of sync…tight shoulders, headaches, trouble sleeping, and that constant “wired but tired” feeling. 10. You’re on autopilot…moving through the motions at work and home, but barely feeling present for yourself or others. High-functioning burnout is sneaky because you look fine on the outside but inside, your nervous system is running on overdrive. If you’re a high performer, this is probably your everyday norm….which makes it easy to ignore the warning signs until your body and mind start screaming. If several of these hit, it’s not about weakness…it’s a signal your body and mind need a reset. 🤯 Burnout has been researched in the context of the workplace. But I have seen the same problems occur beyond the scope of paid employment. For example, people who take on caring roles for loved ones are vulnerable to the emotional exhaustion seen in burnout. Burnout happens when the demands placed on you have far exceeded what you are able to fulfill for a long period. This leaves you feeling emotionally drained, physically exhausted and run down. It can start to affect your mental health, physical health and relationships and needs to be addressed as soon as possible. BURNOUT DIARIES - PT.1 👇 so many of us feel exhausted all the time, yet we can’t quite understand why. we try to do everything “right”. we listen to the podcasts, we build the routines, we squeeze in the workouts, the walks, the meditation, the healthy meals. but somehow… life still feels rushed. we make our coffee while checking emails. we watch tv while scrolling our phones. we eat standing up between tasks. we brush our teeth while already moving on to the next task. even the moments that are meant to be rest become something else to optimise. and our nervous system notices. because your body doesn’t just respond to what you do, it responds to how you move through it. when every moment is rushed, multitasked, or half-present, your system never really gets the signal that it’s safe to slow down. no wonder so many of us feel constantly tired. for me, learning about the nervous system has meant doing less - not more. letting ordinary moments be slower again. drinking coffee without the laptop. walking without needing to track every step. remembering that life isn’t something we have to rush through. sometimes the most powerful reset is simply doing one thing at a time 🤍 - follow along for small ways to regulate your nervous system and live a little more slowly. #burnoutrecovery #nervoussystemregulation #highfunctioningburnout #stressrecovery #mindfulliving

@advicewitherin 🔥 Burnout is more than just feeling tired, stressed, or bored. It’s characterized by 3 major symptoms (APA): * Lack of motivation * Lack of pleasure in your job * Lack of belief in your ability to complete tasks (a sense of inefficacy) 💻 In 2021, a study by Indeed found that burnout has worsened since the pandemic (67% respondants reported) and more than half of workers (52%) are feeling burnt out. 😣 What causes burnout? It can be several factors: ‼️ excessive workload/hours 📑 lack of work/life balance or separation 🌫️ unclear expectations ✂️ poor organizational culture 🧍♂️individual factors (clinical depression, perfectionism, strong desire for achievement, etc.) ❤️🩹 Sometimes your body knows you’re burned out before your mind does. 🤒 Are you frequently sick? Have headaches? Stomach aches? Chills? Fatigue? Breakouts? This might be your body telling you that you need to start taking care of yourself. Some tips? 🤚🏼 Set boundaries 🚫 Say “no” 🤸♂️ Exercise 🌳 Get outside 🚿 Take a shower 💟 Practice gratitude 🏓 Get a hobby 🧖🏼♀️ Self care 🎗️Volunteer 📞 Call a friend 🧠 Reframe 🧘🏼♀️ Meditate 🧑🏻💼 Talk to a therapist/counselor You got this ❤️🔥

Burnout is insanely common, especially among women. But common doesn’t mean normal. And it definitely doesn’t mean inevitable. I’m deeply grateful I realised that when I did so many years ago. Because if I hadn’t, I would have stayed stuck in the same cycle. Trying to do everything perfectly. Taking care of everyone else first. Pleasing. Performing. Pushing. Ignoring the quiet (and not-so-quiet) signs that I was past my limits. And even when my body was waving red flags, I kept going. Until burnout showed up as numbness. As constant stress. As tension that lived in my body. As new health issues born from never slowing down. What I’ve learned - and lived - is that burnout doesn’t come from nowhere. For me, it was rooted in deeper patterns: over-responsibility, fear of letting people down, tying my worth to productivity. I’ve spent years doing the inner work, and growing with my community, to unlearn those patterns and gently build new ways of living, relating, and working. And that work has changed everything. ✨Where there was tension, there is now release. ✨Where there was numbness, there is now joy and play. ✨Where there was fear, there is now freedom. ✨Where anxiety and depression once ran the show, there is now an Anna who feels grounded, regulated, and not ruled by her emotions. 🦋Here’s what I want you to hear clearly🦋 Burnout is not normal. And healing from it alone isn’t either. We aren’t meant to do this work in isolation. I work with women every day who are exhausted, overwhelmed, and on the edge of burnout ,helping them reconnect with their bodies, soften the nervous system, and create lives that actually feel livable again. 💌If this resonates, you don’t have to keep pushing on your own. Burnout isn’t always about working hard… 👇🏼 … or working too many hours. Sometimes it’s about working on something that doesn’t feel aligned anymore. For a long time, I told myself I was just exhausted. That I needed better routines, more discipline, a proper break. And yes, sometimes rest helps. But what I eventually realised was this: I wasn’t tired of working. I was tired of forcing myself to care about something that no longer felt right. I remember sitting in corporate thinking, “Why does this feel so heavy when I’m technically doing well?” On paper, everything made sense. But I couldn’t picture myself there long term without shrinking parts of who I was. That was the real red flag. I’ve worked long hours in seasons that felt aligned and I didn’t burn out. I was stretched, challenged, even overwhelmed at times - but I still felt connected to what I was building. The real drain came from staying somewhere my heart had already left. High achievers can handle hard. What slowly wears us down is misalignment. So if you’ve been calling yourself “burnt out,” maybe gently ask… is it the workload, or is it the direction? Nothing is wrong with you if your ambition is evolving. That doesn’t mean you’re lazy or ungrateful. It just means you’re growing.
