As an adaptive athlete, completing my first HYROX in 1 hour and 30 minutes was one of the proudest moments of my journey so far. I only started running again properly a few months ago, and to be part of such an encouraging, fast-growing community was nothing short of incredible. HYROX isn’t just a race. It’s a movement. Inclusive. Supportive. Empowering. The athletes, volunteers, and the entire crew created an atmosphere that lifted me every step of the way. This is just the beginning. Many amputees use Botox to reduce sweating in their residual limb. I haven’t done it yet, and during this race my leg wouldn’t stay on because of how much I was sweating. One of my biggest goals was to keep going in HYROX no matter how much pain I was in or how tired I felt… but almost immediately, my leg fell off. I refused to walk. I adapted the only way I could — I shoved my hand into my socket and held on for dear life while trying to keep my pace. Doing that left me scratched, bruised, and bleeding, but the only way to finish was to physically hold my leg on. I ran over half of my first 1K like that… and the next round, it happened again. I felt so defeated. So frustrated. Like all of my training was pointless because something I couldn’t control kept going wrong. Looking back, I realize… this is all part of the experience. What does Adaptive Hyrox look like? I compete in seated with hip function. There's different weights and distances for each adaptive category, but wherever you compete, it's always the same standards. I wasn't able to get video footage at all stations (there's 8 in total), but here's a few. Let me know if you have any questions!
