If you told me I’d be illustrating my first book with a basic blue ballpoint pen, on watercolor paper from the italian town Amalfi, in 4 days, for my 63 year old dutch friend while living in Italy- I would pinch myself to check if I were dreaming. 😭 The whole project has been swirling around me, and as I’ve struggled with art block I just wanted to doodle a little with whatever I had available- a ballpoint pen and my book of watercolor paper from Amalfi that my friend gave me. It’s all very symbolic, and corelates in such wonderful ways! Anyway I haven’t drawn traditionally in a while but it was so good to reawaken that creative muscle, it really broke me out of art block. For this project I was inspired by the magic here in italy, art noveau ornaments and florals, and my love for the sea- which goes well with the story that these illustrations are for! I haven’t even read my friends book yet, but by just hearing the concept, I could not help but feel inspired. I was honored to be chosen as the illustrator, and now that I know I am capable of it, I am sure I’d be up for similar projects and collaborations in the future🥹❤️ love you guys! . #bookillustration #illustrating #bookillustrations #sketchbooktour #ballpointpen
