🚐 Camper Relocation - Brisbane ➡️ Sydney 🇦🇺 How I got this van for 4 days for (nearly) free👇🏻 What is it? Rental companies will sometimes have vans in the “wrong” location to satisfy their fleet’s bookings 🌍 Instead of paying someone to drive it back for them (expensive), some advertise the trip online (I used imoova), at HEAVILY reduced rates for people, like me, to drive it there for them 🚐 How does it work? Some deals are better than others - the pick up/drop off locations will vary, and how long you have to “complete” the trip. As I live in Syd, I went for Bris - Syd (1000km) and the offer was 3d/2n for just $1 per night. (There are some admin fees, but they also cover $100 of your fuel ⚖️ ) I also opted for +1 night to be able to enjoy the trip a bit more for $75. This means I essentially got the van for 3 nights for just $48. Once booked it works just like a normal rental, with the essentials provided 🍽️ Some considerations: •You will need to have money to cover a deposit (just like a normal rental); •It’s a one way trip, so you will have to get yourself to the pick up/drop off location; •You have to cover the fuel costs of the trip (over and above the $100) •Some companies are better than others. Check the reviews ahead of time! I had one approved before, but after checking I cancelled as there were words like “death trap”… and I didn’t fancy that 😂 •Some deals are better than others - so check the distance between the locations vs the time offered Here were the total costs for my entire trip: Flight $100 Taxis $70 Fuel $212 ($312-$100) Fees $148 ($74 for +1 day) Optional: Linen $55 (I wouldn’t do this again, take your own or buy cheap) USB fan $40 (the van got VERY hot at night 😅) Total = $625 Considering the cost to book this van direct was ~$1400 (not including any fuel), you’re looking at approximately 30% of what it should cost! Con este sistema, empresas de alquiler te “prestan” un auto o campervan por un precio simbólico (¡a veces hasta gratis!) para trasladarlo de un punto a otro. Ideal para aventurer@s con flexibilidad de tiempo. ✨ Ventajas: • Viaje barato (en muchos casos no pagás nada por el alquiler). • Vehículos cómodos y en excelente estado. • Oportunidad de conocer lugares increíbles. ⚠️ Cosas que hay que tener en cuenta: • Muchas veces tenés que pagar el seguro, los peajes y la gasolina. • Hay que adaptarse a las fechas y rutas que ellos asignan. • Puede implicar manejar muchas horas por día para cumplir con los tiempos. • A veces no hay flexibilidad para desviarse o quedarse más tiempo en un lugar. THIS IS HOW YOU CAN ROADTRIP THE US (OR ANYWHERE) FOR JUST $10! I have booked an RV relocation with a website called imoova. RV relocations are fixed routes on fixed dates so that the supplier can move their vehicle on time. It’s infinitely cheaper for them to hand out this relocations to willing drivers who want an adventure as opposed to paying for their staff to relocate for them so in theory; everyone’s a winner. But are they? 📅 The fact remains that the customer has 0 control over the route, date or the RV they choose. We are at the mercy of the supplier and they will often only post about these a few weeks in advance at most. 📍 You can’t guarantee availability until just a couple of weeks in advance which means if you’re planning an enormous trip. You need to just gamble or be willing to change plans very last minute. 🗺️ Sometimes these routes mean long driving days as you have a deadline set by the supplier which can sometimes limit your itinerary (although I don’t think this is an issue personally) ⛽️ You do need to pay for your own fuel, extras and insurance. This isn’t a drawback per se (mainly because this would be on top of an insanely expensive rental under normal circumstances) but just factor it into your budget. The RVs absolutely nail fuel like there’s no tomorrow so make sure you budget large quantities. 🧒 Some rentals come with minimum age limits of 21 (we couldn’t purchase full insurance for the vehicle as we’re under 25) 🎒 Ultimately, this is an absolutely insanely cheap way to roadtrip some incredible parts of the world and have the adventure of a lifetime with smaller budgets. The big, big question when weighing up an RV relocation is whether the money saved is worth the inconvenience lost. You usually get a few days to complete the trip, so it works best if you like spontaneous travel (which we totally do).
