@tchalamet is trying to project his own shallow vision onto art by claiming “no one cares anymore.” Yet, what we see here is not a “passing fad,” but a fire that has been burning for centuries. Colossal stages, thousands of people, and that one high note that pierces the heart in seconds... Art does not need the validation of pop culture. I had to weigh in! At last year’s SAG Awards @tchalamet said he’s in ‘pursuit of greatness’ —his goal is to be one of the greats like Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps. But it’s hard to ignore the disconnect when he says no one cares about Opera and Ballet anymore 🙈 Opera is the ultimate vocal sport; Ballet is the peak of body movement. To chase the legacy of the greats, you have to honor the bricks the house is built on—from Bach to Brando. 🏛️✨ Seeing him play ‘dead art’, and acting so well on piano in one of his roles (as shown here for a moment) makes the comment even more confusing. You don’t have to like opera or ballet to respect the level of mastery it requires. Let’s not close the door on the greats who paved the way for us to create today. Opera and ballet are alive! Little @tchalamet might be getting too big for his breeches…. This had me FUMING! There is no need to disrespect other professions and especially other art forms. I see his point but he could have made the same exact point and encouraged support of his fellow creative professionals instead…. Dear @tchalamet, Just because you may not personally care for opera or ballet doesn’t mean there aren’t people who love them passionately—individuals who dedicate their entire lives to these crafts or find deep fulfillment in them alongside their careers. You have sung and danced in your own films, and at the end of the day, we both embody characters, which makes us not so different. While the film industry is barely a century old, our art forms have enriched the world for hundreds of years. If you’re ever curious, you’re more than welcome to come to any of my performances!
