Growing up I never knew how to embrace my culture. I would often bleach my hair and always wanted to change my Indigenous features. My mama @kayuulanov has always taught me to love myself. And after seeing other amazing Indigenous creators like @__coyotl__ @notoriouscree @igkymon and so many more, I realized how important it is to love your unique features... your culture. I always try to think of it as having our grandparents & our ancestors features in us. How beautiful it is to be part of them and to be carrying it for them...

Please watch the whole way through, and can you like and comment please to boost this video.. ❤️🙏 #native #smallbusinessowner #indigenous

The generational effects of colonialism, residential school, and the 60s scoop are reasons why many people are reconnecting to family, culture, traditions and ceremonies today. I’m happy to see so many of us reconnecting and healing through aspects of culture 💞 I’m also grateful to see so many amazing role models for young Indigenous youth on this app! You all continue to inspire me every day 🫶🏼& to my family and friends for supporting me along my journey chi miigwetch #indigenous #native #healingjourney

1. People hold Indigenous creators (and creators in general) to a high standard: I don’t see this as a bad thing necessarily, but I can see how exhausting it gets when people expect you to be doing everything and more. Language revitalization, activism & other cultural practices along with finding community. I want all of the above, but it doesn’t happen overnight, and I need to remind myself I am good enough now. I deserve joy, peace, and love as I work on this lifelong journey 🪶 2. You can’t please everyone, take some comments with a grain of salt: Regardless of the content, if it has a lot of views it’s probably going to have some opinions and maybe even hate. A lot of what I’ve posted is from the heart, and meant to have people reflect & relate. However, it can reach the wrong audience and I’m adjusting to this. It just shows how much room there is for change in this space, I’m so happy to have found such a beautiful community for those that stick around 3. The people who support you, will make your day: I wasn’t expecting any of these videos to land talking about my own experience as a reconnecting ‘mixed’ Native. It came easy to me to write how I feel, and share what I think is important…I found my little IG family! A huge part of me feels validated, and less alone. That is a beautiful thing I continue to carry with me. Every comment of someone bearing their heart or giving encouragement is almost as good as a real-life hug 🫂 I thank you for being here #indigenous #reconnectingnative #outdoors #native
