Some views are worth a 2 hour drive, 1.5 mile hike in the wind and rain, and then waiting for the sun to set. 💁🏼‍♀️ We couldn’t believe our luck when we were already halfway to Volcano National Park when we got the alert that Kilauea errupted. We fought through the massive line of cars to get into the park and then hiked up to the lookout point to get the best possible views. I only wish the rain and clouds had let up earlier. 😅. 10/10 experience. Would definitely do again. #kilauea #volcano #hawaii #bigisland #bigislandofhawaii

After learning about the morning eruption of the Kilauea Volcano, we altered our plans and went there. Witnessing the event was remarkable. A lifetime experience ❤️ We went back 48 hours later to hike the Kilauea Ike Trail. We crossed a solid lake of lava! At the end of the reel you see the eruption stopped and is only smoking today. We could see smoke rising in the distance and quickly realized Kilauea 🌋 was erupting that day. Walking along the crater rim, we passed steaming vents and watched plumes rising from the earth while lava flowed inside the crater. We were there on January 12, 2026, which turned out to be the 40th episode of activity at Kilauea.
