How was getting pregnant with a JPouch?👇 I've been receiving this question a lot since baby boy joined us, so I wanted to share my story❤️ When we got the news that I might have fertility issues after my stoma surgery in 2020, I already decided to stop with any type of birth control. We weren't gonna 'actively try' to get pregnant, because I still had my JPouch surgery coming up etc., but if it would happen it would be welcome🙏 In 2021 I had my JPouch surgery and the doctors recommended not to get pregnant for the next 2 years - to make sure my JPouch was fully healed & ready to deal with a pregnant body So again: we decided to not actively try just yet. But we did say that if I still wouldn't be pregnant after our honeymoon (2 years after surgery) we would start with timing with my ovulation etc. Turns out I got pregnant after 1.5 year - I was 17 weeks along during our wedding🥰 The doctors wanted to keep a close eye on me to make sure my body could handle it - but considering my belly wasn't pressuring my pouch that much in the first 6 months, it was as if it was perfectly timed. Exactly 2 years after surgery I had a big belly which my Pouch handled like a pro💪 As if Zen knew when would be the best time for mommy to arrive❤️ So in my personal experience: everything felt so natural, we didn't experience any stress in the process because I already got pregnant before we expected it. However: we were also completely mentally prepared for it not to happen naturally. That it might have taken a few years of actively trying, maybe even IVF. That's why we wanted to immediately stop birth control back in 2020 already... The part of ostomy life nobody talks about. Total colectomy doesn’t always mean the end of active disease. I’m still dealing with rectal stump complications and sitting with one of the heaviest decisions of my life— j pouch surgery or permanent ostomy. I don’t have the answer yet. I don’t usually share this side of my life — my battle with chronic illness — but this year I want to be more real on here. Back at the start of January I turned 37 in London… not for celebrations, but so I could be at St Mark’s early the next morning for a pouchoscopy (camera into my J-pouch). It was the first time my baby stayed overnight without me — and the first time she wasn’t at home with her dad. Leaving her with my mum broke me a little. I knew she’d be loving life at her nanny’s, but it was still so hard. My birthday night was full of nerves and anxiety. They confirmed the chronic pouchitis I’ve been fighting for 6 years. After becoming antibiotic-dependent (with numbness, dizziness and brain fog), it’s time to start biologics. First infusion done 25th Feb. Now injections every 8 weeks. Living with a J-pouch means fatigue, low iron, constant toilet trips and managing an autoimmune disease that didn’t leave with my colon. I’m hopeful this drug switches off the inflammation. I’ve lived with the label ‘ulcerative colitis’ since I was 19 years old. I don’t think I ever truly accepted it, even to this day.. and now my label could be changed from Colitis to Crohn’s I’m scared. Yes it’s still a form of inflammatory bowel disease, but it’s the unknown territory that comes with it. As I’m typing this it feels therapeutic, almost like a relief that I’m being honest with myself. I’m scared. I’ve spent so many years out of the healthcare system because my illness was manageable but over the past 12 months I feel like I’ve gone back to square one in some ways. I felt like moving into a new year was a fresh start, a reset.. but unfortunately it’s followed me like the dark cloud it is. I don’t really have a message in this caption, well actually I guess I do.
