It’s been a long time since I’ve shown a full carrier launch, and since so many of you asked for the “fun” part first, here is that exciting acceleration! We were the 2nd strike package for this mission, which meant plenty of time to soak in the deck atmosphere. Listen to the comms and watch the taxi into the catapult; you can see the rig and vibrating over the “star-cup” tie-down points on the non-skid surface and bumping over the arresting cables. Once hooked into the shuttle, the active belts take over. The longitudinal G-force is so violent that you can see my physical reaction as the catapult fires.
