Plyometrics are an excellent way to improve your jumps. Knowing how to do them can be confusing, so this video aims to enlighten people on the correct technique to maximise their results.

If your jumps feel flat and your carries lack punch you’re probably missing this... Heavy strength work primes the nervous system so you can express more power immediately after. Pair it like this: 🏋️ Heavy squat (2–4 reps) ⚡ Broad jump (2–3 reps) Same muscles. More neural drive. More force into the ground. That’s how you build power that actually transfers to sprinting and contact. Save this for leg day 👇 Train like a player. Not a bodybuilder.

The biggest myth in jump training? The fitness world loves making things sound more exclusive than they actually are. You’ve probably heard that you shouldn’t even think about plyometrics until you can back squat double your body weight. While building a solid strength base is important, it’s not an “either/or” situation. You can, and should, progress through plyometrics and strength training at the same time. You just need the right exercises and the right volume for where you’re at. Don’t let a math equation stop you from becoming a better athlete. After the age of 40 jumping should absolutely play apart in your training program. I swear by the use it or lose it methodology and nothing exemplifies it more than when people deteriorate they lose the ability to jump both feet off of the floor. Here are a few variations to try add into your training once or twice per week!

Deep ranges of motion at the hip knee and ankle ☑️ Rapid eccentrics ☑️ Easy to gamify ☑️ These examples are quite advanced you don’t have to push the deep tier work this far. But I would try to push your jumping further than just the odd squat jump, box jump and pogo jump. Learning to produce force faster eccentrically, learning to move in and out of deep ranges with more intent across different variations will make your body more prepared for snatch clean and jerk. Due to the lower need for external load it doesn’t beat you up anywhere near as much as heavy squatting or pulling. Adding these in alongside your lifting can reduce the need for a lot of squatting and pulling volume. There’s two jump programs in my bio that are made for weightlifters, you can also piece most of this stuff together for yourself off my page and @mcinneswatson to be fair 🤙🏽

Complex training can be a great way to train to improve athleticism and explosiveness. The way I like to program it is by pairing a heavy complex lift (such as a squat or deadlift) with an explosive plyometric movement (pogo hops, box jumps, etc…). Engaging the muscle this way leverages Post Activation Potentiation which has been shown in some studies to increase sprinting and jumping abilities better than resistance training alone. If athletic performance is your goal, give complex training a try. As with all training, be careful and make sure you don’t over utilize this style of training. An experienced strength coach or personal trainer can help you program this into your own training. Follow for more gym teacher approved training tips! Elasticity > Max Strength Work Elasticity is the capacity to return to your original form after stretching, allowing efficient energy recycling rather than relying solely on muscle strength. Think of your muscles and tendons like a rubber band: • They absorb force when you land • Store that energy • Release it instantly into your next jump You can be strong and still not jump high — because jumping is about how fast you can use your force, not just how much force you have. Elasticity > Max Strength Work. (No hate on max strength work - we very well do this, but everything has a time and place in athletic programming) Unlocking Potential, Amplifying Success #athleteperformance #longtermathleticdevelopment #verticaljump #plyometrics #athletetraining

All the low ceiling drills are meant to be done with a relaxed intent, you’re trying to get used to effortlessly hitting deep ranges with a bit of speed. You can send the loaded jumps. What you train will remain. If you want to gain and/or maintain power in your lower body - don’t stop jumping. Start with these 3 exercises. They’re safe for most people at almost any age or fitness level. Warm up properly, make sure you’ve been training your tendons consistently, and start with a lower box & shorter distances. Try it, or don’t. #mattmarchant #trainingwithmatt #jump #jumps #jumptraining #jumpexercises #plyo #plyometricstraining #plyometric #lowerbodyworkout #lowerbodystrength #lowerbodypower #gym #gymmotıvatıon #boxjump #boxjumps #broadjump
