Kids Activity That Builds Fine Motor Skills and Creativity
2,912,046

Kids Activity That Builds Fine Motor Skills and Creativity Want a simple kids activity that builds fine motor skills, creativity, and early science understanding. This one uses only water, washable markers, and a plastic spoon. What You Need Water in a shallow bowl Washable markers A plastic spoon How It Works Kids draw on the back of the spoon using washable markers. When the spoon goes into the water, the ink lifts and floats because washable ink dissolves in water instead of sticking to plastic. The smooth plastic surface prevents the ink from bonding, so it releases on contact. Kids get a fun visual effect that feels like art and science mixed together. How To Do It Fill a shallow bowl with water Have your child draw any picture they want on the spoon Lower the spoon gently into the water Watch the drawing lift and float Want more quick activities that build confidence and brain power. I use simple activities as tools when I need them. If my kids are having a hard time playing, getting along, etc. and I need to get stuff done (laundry, dishes, etc.), I’ll quickly set something up and it will change the entire mood of the house around.

Do I set something up every time they fight? NO
Do I set activities up every day? NO
But do I use activities as tool when I need them? YES!

Here are 10 other activities for kids and siblings that are low-prep and using things you probably already have around your house!

1. Decorate a box! Bring out markers, paint, stickers and let them decorate a cardboard box.

2. Cup bowling! Give your child plastic cups and have them set them upside down on the ground. Place small toys on top and use a ball of socks or a ping pong to “bowl” and knock the animals off.

3. Water Painting! Give your child water and a paintbrush and go outside and paint the driveway.

4. Tape scavenger hunt! Hide pieces of painters tape around the house and have your child go find them and place on a piece of paper.

5. Rock painting! Find rocks and color or paint them with acrylic paint or acrylic paint markers.

6. Water play! Put water and toys in a water table or big plastic bin and let your kids play away! You can add a couple drops of food coloring to make the water colored too.

6. Tape bridge! This activity of ours went viral after we posted and now we’ve seen thousands of other kids around the world enjoy it! Place two pieces of painters tape (a couple of inches apart) face down across two surfaces (kitchen counter to kitchen island work great). Use craft sticks and place them across the two strips to make a “bridge”. You can give your child little toys to balance on top.

7. Foil painting! Place a big piece of foil in a baking dish. Use washable markers to color the foil. Spray the foil with water then press paper onto it. Peel and reveal.

8. Find the music! Play music on your phone and hide your phone somewhere in the house. Have your kids go search for the music and find the phone.

9. Post-It hunt! Hide Post-its around the house and go find them.

10. Chalk board game! Make a board game outside with chalk.

Have fun!

I often hear from parents that they don’t have time to prep activities and I get it - parents are mega busy (I’ve been there!). That’s why I set up my business-Blossom. To help busy parents get easy wins. Here’s how to make this activity super easy. Take some plain paper and a black pen. Draw some simple umbrellas on each page (you can draw one, or lots, or a mixture) Can’t draw? It doesn’t matter. Draw a circle. Put each one in a poly wallet. Cut out kitchen roll in the shape of the umbrella or circle . Stick onto outside of Polly wallet with pritt stick. Gather some food colouring or ink. If you don’t have food colouring, then do this: Get a jam jar, pop a small squirt of paint in, add a bit of water, put the lid on and shake to make the paint really liquid. Repeat with different colours if you want more than one colour. Keep it all in a cupboard until you’re ready. When you’re ready, take a chopstick to dot paint all over the ‘sky’ like in the video (avoiding the kitchen roll). Give your kid a pencil/chop stick and show them what to do. Have a cup of tea and a biscuit. Congratulate yourself for being a brilliant parent! Variations: Draw a cat or dog and use brown and orange paint Cut a strip of kitchen roll as ‘grass’ at the bottom of the Polly wallet, use greens and your kid can make the grass green by ‘watering’ it Try a rainbow shape and lots of colours or flower shapes.
