I’ve been seeing so many posts pop up in my feed lately about people discovering knitting for the first time—maybe it’s the algorithm showing me a disproportionate number of these types of things or maybe it’s true? 🤷🏻♀️ I choose to believe it’s true (the more knitters the better 🤗), so I wanted to share this gem of a tip I wish I’d known when I first started knitting. Full tutorial available on my YouTube channel (link in bio) 😘 Do you use the invisible join, too? How to M1LP ❤️ Make 1 Left Purl increase M1LP stands for “Make 1 Left Purl” stitch, a technique used in knitting to create a left-leaning increase purlwise. 1. Insert your needle from front to back under the bar between stitches and lift it onto left needle. 2. Then purl that stitch through the back loop. #howtoknit #knittingtutorial #makeoneincrease #m1lp

Part 2 of creating the most invisible increase: Left Lifted Increase (LLI) Just like the Right Lifted Increase, this method is worked into the stitch below — which makes it super clean, nearly invisible, and gap-free. No stretched bars, no little holes — just smooth, polished fabric. LLI is the perfect match to RLI when you want mirrored increases that actually look symmetrical. M1L might be my favourite lifted increase… I said what I said. This is Make 1 Left (M1L) in Eastern / combination knitting — shown flat and in the round — and yes, it’s basically the same movement. If you’re learning increases, understanding stitch mount + lean direction changes everything. The goal isn’t memorising steps — it’s controlling the twist. Save this if M1L finally clicked for you 🫶 #knittingtutorial #yarnaddict #knit #handmade #knitaholic

Make one right is one of the most commonly used knitting increases - I think I’ve used it in every sweater I knit last year! I found it difficult to remember until I learned this phrase - and I’ve linked my tutorial for Make one Left below, the counterpart to M1R for knitting. If there’s another technique you’d like to see, let me know 💕 save this for the next time you need help with a make on knitted increase. #knitting #knittinginspiration #strikke #knittersofinstagram #sweaterknitting

👇 This is the secret 👇 . . Pulling is the secret 🤫🧶 If your knitting edges look messy, it’s not your pattern — it’s your tension. A gentle pull at the right moment creates clean, straight, professional-looking edges every time. . . 👉Save this for later & try it on your next project ✨ Your selvedges will thank you. . . When #knitting in the round, you’re essentially knit in an upward spiral. Because of this, changing colours creates a visible “jog” at the start of each new stripe. This is how you can even out the jog: ✨ Knit to the last stitch of the round ✨ Yarn over with the new colour (bring it up behind the working yarn) ✨ Knit the last stitch in the old colour ✨ Continue with the new colour—don’t twist the yarns ✨ On the next round, knit the yarn over together with the last stitch 🧶🙌

Are there many great videos on the magic loop technique that explain it clearly and concisely? Yes. Will I use them… no. Because that technique scares me. #knitstagram #knitting #beginnerknitter #yarn #handmade

Confused about M1R vs M1L? You’re not alone — this tiny detail makes a huge difference in how polished your knitting looks. Most places teach you to lift the bar using the left needle, but i prefer to use my right. In any case: M1R (right leaning): lift the bar onto the left needle making sure the right leg is in the back and left leg is in the front- knit through the front loop. M1L (left leaning): lift the bar onto the left needle so the right leg is in the front and left leg is in the back. Knit through the back loop. Save this for your next project so you don’t have to guess mid-pattern #knitting #knittersofinstagram #knittersgonnaknit #knittingtips

How do I make increases? There are many different ways of increasing, but my go-to for stocking stitch is the “make one” increase, shown here on a raglan top-down sweater. Raglan increases need to be symmetrical, so I make a M1R (make one right) before the raglan “seam” and a M1L (make one left) after. The M1R can be a bit tricky, so I pull the stitch and press with my left thumb to create enough slack to insert the needle. #knitting
