I'm not going through #BlackHistoryMonth without giving flowers to Krip Hop legend Leroy Moore! Toss an awesome #BlackDisabled creator or artist, in the comments An unwavering activist for #BlackDisabled justice, and staunch advocate amplifying disability in Hip Hop and poetry, Leroy was one of the first human beings to support my music career when I first got signed over a decade ago. Little did I know then, Leroy would inspire me in part for the disability inclusion in music work I do today.  Representation has certainly improved in many aspects for Disability Culture and visibility in entertainment and media. Celebrities are coming out about their neurodiversities or chronic illnesses in a non-trauma-porn way. Honest discussions are being had about mental health. However, it's important we recognize the much slower progress for the black deaf and disability communities, the biases, the silent cancellations, and the greater lack in opportunity. As we celebrate 50 years in Hip Hop, the visibility for black Country musicians, and the renaissance of female-lead R&B, I wonder if pushing for more inclusive practices doesn't start within our own communities, dropping the shame, embracing our differences, and walking the path of collective liberation. I know it's a steep ask, and resonate with the, "I'm already black, I'm not trying to add disability to my plight"-sentiment - the plight of having one's humanity measured by production-value burdened on us by majority society. But if we want change, especially as the pioneers of Culture--because that's what we black folks are, the pioneers of Culture--I believe it will start with us. Thank you Leroy Moore for your continued work, moves and elevation, but mostly for coming out to my first show in the Bay Area back in 2013 and being an amazing supporter ever since.
