Single leg step downs are one of my favorites 🤩 They help with unilateral strength, balance, and hip stability all of which will help you run more comfortably! Focus on lowering slowly and controlling the eccentric part and then lightly tap the ground but don’t transfer your weight down to the ground. I used a soft box in this video but in order to make it easier to balance you can use a firmer box. You can also hold a light counterweight out in front of you to help you balance. Here are three Step-up Variations that I’ve picked up since starting at @optimalptcfla . I’m working on slowly progressing through them, so more to come. • 1) Poliquin: Elevated on a 2”-6” surface, use a 45 degree wedge, lower straight down allowing the knee to travel over the toes. Lightly touch the ground with the heel of the support leg. Don’t shift your weight from one leg to the other. 2) Peterson: Elevated on a 2”-6” surface, line the toes of the working leg up with the heels of the support leg. Maintain an unsupported elevated heel position through the entire rep. 3) Lateral: Align the toes and heels of both feet, and use a surface height that allows the foot of the working leg to maintain a flat position through the entire range of motion. • Stick with one variation for a few weeks until you’ve improved.
