Not every amount credited to your bank account is taxable. Under the Income Tax Act, several receipts are fully exempt—but only when conditions are properly met. Here are 8 important tax-free receipts every taxpayer should understand: 1. Wedding Gifts Received on Marriage Any gift received on the occasion of your marriage is exempt from tax—no monetary limit applies, even if from non-relatives. 2. Inheritance / Assets Received Through Will Money/property inherited through succession or a will is not taxed when received. 3. Agricultural Income Agricultural income is generally exempt from tax. 4. Scholarships for Education Scholarships granted to meet education costs are fully tax-free. Includes: Government/private scholarships if genuinely for education. No upper limit. 5. HUF Distributions Amounts received by a member from a Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) out of HUF income are exempt in the member’s hands. 6.
