Mother’s Day is quickly approaching and if you’re looking for a nice letterpress printed greeting card, we have you covered! Check out our museum store for details. In this video, Jared letterpress printed a Mother’s Day greeting card with orange oil base ink using a 3x5 Kelsey Excelsior tabletop printing press. The text on the front of the card states, “You’re the purrr-fect MOM!” It was typeset in 30 point Caslon font. The image of a cat is from an electrotype made in the 1890s from the Lewis Winter Collection. This one’s for my booktok girlies 📚 I’ve been making letterpress bookplates, which have traditionally been used to label a book as yours. Alternatively called Ex Libris (from the library of) labels, they offer a beautiful way to show off your great design taste when sharing your book collection. I’ve printed these on my antique printing press, which was made in 1922. I used copper plates and lovely deep brown ink on ivory paper. Introducing our newest, very old piece of machinery. This beautiful piece of print history is an Arab Press. A treadle letterpress machine built in Halifax, England in 1894. It’s a bit of monster, weighing in over 800kg. And yet it’s surprisingly smooth and quiet. We’ve only had the chance to print the first layer of some notecards so far and there’s a lot more to explore.
