I’m trying to figure out if my last webtoon lettering video was a fluke or if people actually just really like to watch these Mini tutorial is on its way, I’ve just been busy preparing to launch my webtoon so I have a lot going on rn. After my notes from yesterday’s story, I got a lottt of messages about handwriting vs. lettering, so I thought we could chat about it! Here you’ll see my handwriting (which I almost never use anymore) and my “note taking” lettering. You’ll see it’s not perfect. It’s much faster than my typical Instagram lettering or custom project lettering because well, it doesn’t really matter. Why do I take my notes in my lettering? Productive practice! I get to work on muscle memory (which will help me get faster in the long run) and I also use my notes for experimenting with new styles! I’ll try a whole page with a new s or new r or adding loops and see what fits. I have come up with many of my style variations this way! Is taking notes this way a little slower? Yes. Is it more fun and more productive? Yes. Is it prettier to look at? Yes 😍 Another friendly reminder: Handwriting and Lettering are very different!! Something really interesting that stood out to me when I was reading a book about how to make manga was that the artist insisted on hand drawing the text bubbles because text bubbles are part of the art. I know that the clip studio generated text bubbles are 1000 times easier than making them by hand, but for me adjusting them and making them the right size and shape takes a lot more time I’m just hand drawing to myself. I know that if I ever print my webtoon it could cause me some headaches but I’d rather be happy with the way it looks now than prepare for a possible future but I’m not sure will even happen.
