Plinth level is one of the most important stages in construction, marking the transition between the foundation and the superstructure. It starts from the ground (zero level) and ends at the level where the building base is ready for wall construction. Proper execution at this stage ensures stability, moisture protection, and long-term durability of the structure. After excavation and footing work, columns are raised and connected using a tie beam, which helps in controlling differential settlement and provides lateral stability by tying all columns into a single frame. This is especially important in uneven soil conditions where independent movement can cause cracks. Once the column and tie beam work is completed, backfilling is done inside the plinth area with proper layer-wise compaction. Over this, a plinth beam is constructed at ground level, which acts as a base for masonry walls and distributes the load evenly to the foundation. It also helps in reducing cracks in walls and improves structural integrity. Finally, a DPC (Damp Proof Course) layer is applied over the plinth beam to prevent moisture rise due to capillary action.
