Where to find incandescent bulbs⬇️ You can still find incandescent bulbs out there… but only in specialty lighting sections. The regular 60w household bulbs we all grew up with? Practically vanished. After the ban pushed stores to stop stocking them, the shelves filled with LEDs instead…not because they’re “better,” but because they meet energy “requirements.” 🤪 But LEDs can flicker at high frequencies, mess with your circadian rhythm, strain your eyes, and even trigger headaches for sensitive people. The quality of light is NOTHING like the warm, steady glow of a real incandescent. So when I find a few specialty incandescents, even if they’re lower wattage and not as bright, I grab them. They’re cozy, warm, and actually feel GOOD to be around. Just make sure your fixture supports the wattage since these aren’t your typical household bulbs anymore. Sadly. I’ll take old-school, steady, sun-like light over cold flickering blue any day. Seriously, I finally replaced LED bulbs in fixtures I hardly used and now I am using those fixtures a lot more 😂 should’ve done this years ago. I’m bummed I didn’t stock up before the ban, but now I’m stocking up when I can find them. 😅 some people share they can’t find them AT ALL. They’re efficient in my house. Why can’t I make that decision? Supposedly they will make a come back and not be banned anymore….but who knows. Is it really about being energy efficient or about something entirely else…. The fact that incandescent lights are prohibited for sale and no longer widely accessible is a tragedy for humanity. They are warm, inviting, and put our nervous system at ease. Where to find old-school incandescent bulbs ⬇️ Because this is a popular question right now… Believe it or not, incandescent bulbs haven’t completely disappeared… they’ve just been pushed into corners. You may have to go online or get thrifty though, depending where you live. These days, you’ll usually spot them hiding in specialty lighting sections, not in the regular aisle. The classic 60-watt bulbs most of us grew up with? Nearly impossible to find. Once the ban rolled through, stores quietly phased them out and replaced them with LEDs, not because they’re superior, but because they check the right “energy efficiency” boxes. 🤪 Check thrift stores, dollar stores, and online. Some places haven’t gotten rid of their inventory before the ban. Be careful though as some will market “incandescent” but then they arrive and are LED. Read the full descriptions and the box! Energy efficient but power bills keep going up? Right…. The problem? LEDs don’t behave like natural light. They flicker, disrupt circadian rhythms, strain the eyes, and can even trigger headaches for some people. The light itself feels harsh and artificial, nothing like the steady, warm glow of a true incandescent. Yes, you can get warm tone LED, but (drum roll please) they are still LED light! Still flicker, still full of harmful eye-straining light. So when I stumble across specialty incandescents, even if they’re lower wattage and a little dimmer, I grab them. They’re cozy, calming, and genuinely pleasant to live with. Just be sure your fixture can handle the wattage, since these aren’t the standard household bulbs anymore. Honestly, once I swapped out LEDs in fixtures I barely used, I started using those lights in those spaces way more. LED vs incandescent bulbs ⬇️ Everyone jokes about conspiracy theories… but once you actually learn what LED lighting does, it makes you THINK and wonder why incandescent bulbs were phased out so aggressively. …and replaced with actual junk. Especially when you realize children sit under this kind of lighting for hours every day at school 😅 Not all light is the same. LEDs emit a harsh, blue-heavy light, flicker at rates your brain can’t consciously detect, and operate on a narrow, synthetic spectrum. The result is a light that feels stimulating instead of calming and wired instead of grounded. Not exactly ideal for evenings or nighttime routines….or for kids in school trying to focus. Incandescent bulbs are the opposite. They produce a warm, steady, continuous glow with no artificial flicker. No sharp blue spike. No jarring effect on the nervous system. Just the closest thing we have to natural firelight indoors. I finally replaced every bulb on my homestead, and 100% best decision! I had already swapped the lights I use daily, but the ones I rarely turned on still had LEDs. And every time I did use them, I felt irritated immediately 😂 So I finally tracked down incandescents and decided…no more. My sleep, my eyes, and my overall sense of calm have noticeably improved. It’s honestly a night and day difference. Funny enough, I’m actually using those lights more now that the lighting feels comfortable instead of stressful when I turn them on lol. Should’ve done this years ago. I still prefer natural daylight whenever possible, so I open my blinds a lot and honestly, I’d love to use candlelight in the evenings one day. Maybe eventually.
