We visited the Mt. Whitney Restaurant in Lone Pine CA. It’s another family owned restaurant that I’ve been visiting since I was a kid. We got the appetizer combo and two of the burgers. The one that started it all… My account never really exploded until this reel right here. I’ll never understand what works well with the algorithm, but this one reel took my account to new heights. Also, this is when reels really pushed your reach, which was I believe around 2021-2022. Didn’t think much of it, but I was blown away with the quality that my Mavic 3 provided. This wasn’t even shot in d-log. Just the necessary LUT that I felt fit the vibe and some basic adjustments to the contrast, highlights, shadows and exposure. Simple per usual. Nothing drastic. But the simplicity of what I do is more than just simple cuts of beautiful landscapes. I want my followers to embrace the scene, feel like they are there and admire what I did on that particular day. With the years that have passed, I hope my followers and others feel the same way now. Edit: location is Big Pine, California Personally, this is the most BEAUTIFUL hike in the Eastern Sierra. I have been lucky to hike and backpack it multiple times. Most of the time I only go to lake 2 as this is my favorite view in the whole Eastern Sierra. There’s just something about looking at Temple Crag sitting so majestically on the background. This trail takes you to seven beautiful lakes. It also leads you to Palisade Glacier, the Southernmost Glacier in North America, as well as the beasts of Mount Sill and North Palisades, two of the 15 California 14ers. A wilderness permit is required for all overnight users. You can visit Recreation.gov to get one. These clips are from different visits and that’s the reason for the different colors in the water. Please make sure to Leave No Trace when you visit places like this. Hike Details 🥾⬇️ 📍Mount Whitney Trail to Lone Pine Lake 💫 Length- 6.5 miles 💫 Type- Out & back 💫 Elevation Gain- About 1800 ft 💫 Difficulty- Challenging 🦮 Dogs are allowed (must be on leash). We did this hike as an acclimation hike before our Mount Whitney summit. The views from the lake are breathtaking! ‼️Permit not required if hiking to Lone Pine Lake. You will need a permit if you are planning to hike beyond the lake or summiting Mt. Whitney. ‼️ Dogs are not allowed past Lone Pine Lake or anywhere near Whitney Zone. ‼️ The trailhead starts at 8360 feet. Make sure to carry plenty of snacks and water to prevent altitude sickness. Really love this BLM campsite in the Eastern Sierras 😍 There are about 80 sites here at $10/night. You cannot pre reserve. Sites included pit toilets and insane views. Water is available during the season. This site (42) comes with secret access to the creek. Noodle loved going in there to get a drink and check it out. We have also stayed here while it was warmer and it was nice to cool off in. This location is near the Alabama Hills. There is a lot of primitive/boondock camping available in the area but if you wanted a designated site, this is a great option. Thinking of visiting Alabama Hills in California? ☀️SO THE CATCH: The best time to visit the so called “Movie Road” is right as the sun is rising! Once it’s illuminating the mountains too much, the view is not the same as it’s REALLY bright (unless you get a cloudy day than you are winning 😅). 🎥It’s called Movie Road as a lot of famous movies such as Django Unchained, Iron Man, Gladiator and others were filmed with this picturesque view. 🚗You can access this spot within 10 minutes of entering the park and also any car can get you on the road. Checking out the cones of the world’s largest species of pine, the sugar pine (Pinus lambertiana)! This species hold the records for being the tallest and most massive of all pines, up to 273 feet tall and growing to a diameter of 11.5 feet. It also has the longest cones of any conifer, growing to 2 feet long, though the coulter pine (Pinus coulteri) of Southern California has more massive cones. This species has its huge pine cones characteristically dangling from the very ends of its upper branches, making it utterly distinctive and identifiable from a long way away, so I thought I’d fly up and get a good look at them! You can see the previous year’s cones open and dry, their seeds all released last fall. You can also see the closed, shiny reddish cones that are still developing! Sugar pines, like many conifers, have winged seeds that helicopter down like maple seeds in the fall, being wind dispersed, but the big tasty seeds are so sought after by birds, bears and squirrels, that many are collected and eaten or stashed away before even taking flight! In this frenzied collection though, seeds are spread far and wide by wing or foot, then buried in the soil to be eaten later. But if the critter that stashed them dies or forgets where they are, then the seeds will sprout from the soil in spring! It is such a treat to get to hike around these remote and rugged Southern Cascade forests with these trees scattered in it.
