Mailbox Peak in Washington 📍 This hike is one of the hardest hikes in the PNW for a reason - you gain 4,000 feet of elevation in 2.5 miles 😅 That is the equivalent of climbing the empire state building over 3 times. This hike is only worth it if you want a physical challenge - you can get the views on a few other prettier hikes in the area like Granite Mountain. Raise your hand if you’ve been personally victimized by Mailbox Peak. 🙋‍♀️ There are few things more rewarding than pushing yourself to your physical limits. Just make sure you come prepared! Always be sure to have more water than you’ll think you need*, snacks to keep your energy levels up, and layers so you can dress for any sudden change in weather. And always, ALWAYS make sure someone who isn’t on the hike with you knows where you’re going. *As a personal example, I usually drink 1.5-2 liters on my day hikes, but I needed all 3 liters I brought to Mailbox. hiking info 👇🏻 📍 mailbox peak new trail 📏 10.49 mi ⛰️ 4022 ft ⏱️ 3hr 35m i went on a thursday to avoid foot traffic but ended up being bummed by the weather☃️ it got pretty unsafe after the first set of scramble since my dumb booty forgot my cramp ons so i made the decision to return in the summer! i made it past the scramble viewpoint and had about 80ft left until the mailbox😅 it just wasn’t worth risking it all LOL non stop elevation and maybe i’ll try the old trail up next time😎 #mailboxpeak #pnwhiking #seattlehikes #solohike #explore

📬 Easily one of the most epic mailboxes you’ll ever check! This summit sits at 4,841 ft and lives up to the hype and the hike! We hiked the Old Trail — the shortest route and the most brutal 😅 Totally worth it. So save this! 📍 Mailbox Peak Old Trail • 6 miles RT • 3,854 ft gain • ~4 hr 45 min • Rated difficult • Don’t forget a sticker! Trail was mostly dry until the talus field, where we hit some packed snow. No microspikes needed, but a few slick spots remained. If I had a nickel for every time someone asked me “What would happen if we tried to send mail from Mailbox Peak?” I would have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but weird that it has happened twice. With this question in mind we decided to take matters into our own hands and hike to Mailbox Peak. That’s right, we addressed a postcard to (hopefully) return back to us, and set out on the steep terrain to place the postcard in the mailbox at the top. The mailbox at Mailbox Peak is a shining beacon of “community effort”, with no real schedule to how often it is maintained. So, we knew the outcome of never getting our postcard back was a definite possibility. And what happened next was DEFINITELY not on our radar. Just one week later, in our normal mail delivery, our postcard returned to us (the crowd screams “yay!”). But this reunion answered a much larger question of “What does Santa do during the off-season?” That’s right, our postcard that we left at Mailbox Peak, not only made it in the mail back to us, it made it back thanks to the help of the jolly man himself. Does this mean that the mailbox is a portal to the North Pole? Did Santa stop by Mailbox Peak during a sleigh joyride? Did one of Santa’s helpers grab our postcard on a mission to spread cheer? We may never know. But we do have our sharpest minds on the case. While we can’t promise the same results, we welcome you to lace up your best hiking boots and maybe test the theory yourself. With many rescues needed in the last few weeks, this trail is not a casual hike. It is important that hikers know their limits before tackling the steep 4,000 foot elevation gain in just over 5 miles (if using the new trail). As with all hikes, come prepared with plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, and emergency essentials.

come with me on my first solo hike! 🥾 personally I really struggle doing things alone, but I decided to push myself to try hiking solo this weekend! it was honestly really fun and such a mentally / physically challenging hike. Trail details ⬇️ 📬 Mailbox Peak in North Bend, WA 🚗 less than 1 hour from Seattle 🏔️ 8.5 miles round trip, 4000ft elv (up new trail, down old trail) - hike gains 1000ft of elevation in the last .75 miles so be prepared 💧carry lots of water - I carried 4 liters and electrolytes 🥾 I highly suggest hiking poles given the rough terrain (especially if you take the old trail) *note - this trail has two options, the old trail and the new trail. The old trail should only be traversed by experienced hikers given the difficulty and technical route.
