Following a warm engagement with Kgosi Malekutu Mampuru IV of the BaPedi ba Mamone Traditional Authority, the Social Development leadership departed Mamone Village after reaffirming the importance of collaboration between government and traditional leadership. Minister of Social Development, Ms Nokuzola Sisisi Tolashe, expressed appreciation to the Kgosi for the warm reception and for his continued leadership in guiding the people of Mamone Village. She emphasised that the work of the Department of Social Development relies on strong partnerships with traditional leaders. “Amakhosi are the custodians of our communities, culture and values. Their guidance is important in ensuring that government programmes respond to the real needs of the people. Where we go wrong, traditional leaders must guide and correct us so that together we serve our communities better,” said Minister Tolashe. The engagement highlighted the critical role that traditional leadership plays in bridging government and communities, ensuring that social development programmes reach families and vulnerable groups in villages such as Mamone.

𝗨𝗡 𝗙𝗨𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗢 𝗣𝗘𝗥 𝗟𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗘 𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗜 𝗗𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗔 𝗦𝗔𝗥𝗗𝗘𝗚𝗡𝗔 Oggi ho visitato la Colonia penale di Mamone, insieme al direttore Vincenzo Lamonaca, al provveditore regionale dell’Amministrazione penitenziaria Domenico Arena e alla magistrata di sorveglianza Rosanna Cabras. È una visita che arriva all’indomani dell’assemblea di Uta sul tema del 41-bis. Due piani completamente diversi. Da una parte un’emergenza nazionale che richiede responsabilità e confronto istituzionale; dall’altra un modello virtuoso come quello delle colonie penali, che offre reinserimento, lavoro e sviluppo ai territori. A Mamone ho visto un luogo dove i detenuti imparano un mestiere, acquisiscono competenze e possono uscire con una professionalità che restituisce dignità e futuro. È l’esercizio della funzione rieducativa, prevista dalla nostra Costituzione. Abbiamo parlato anche delle criticità come sanità, accesso ai servizi specialistici, condizioni del personale penitenziario, che ogni giorno opera con grande professionalità nonostante organici ridotti e pressioni enormi. Come Regione stiamo lavorando accanto al Provveditore Domenico Arena per arrivare a un vero e proprio masterplan di valorizzazione delle colonie penali, per fare di Mamone, Is Arenas e Isili modelli di reinserimento e sviluppo territoriale. Rafforzarle significa investire in comunità più forti e in percorsi che tengono insieme sicurezza e crescita.
