It happens all the time. The gun goes off, the crowd is cheering, the adrenaline spikes… and runners blast through the first mile like it’s a sprint. It feels amazing in the moment. But the truth is, this early overenthusiasm is one of the main reasons so many hit the wall later. ⚠️ Going out too hard shifts blood away from your stomach, making digestion harder and raising the risk of nausea or vomiting. On top of that, burning glycogen too quickly means your energy bank runs dry and the wall at mile 20 comes fast and hard. ✅ The best marathoners in the world avoid this trap. They pace evenly, or even run negative splits. Research shows that consistent pacing reduces the likelihood of dropouts and increases the chance of finishing strong. Here’s how to avoid the early trap: 1️⃣ Hold back during the first 5K, no matter how good you feel 2️⃣ Find a rhythm that feels sustainable and controlled 3️⃣ Save your fight for the final 10K, when the real race begins A marathon is not decided in the first mile. It is decided in how much respect you give the distance, and how smart you manage your energy. 💬 Have you ever started too fast in a race? What did you learn from it?

This past marathon was TWO years in the making. I won’t ever take a start line for granted. All the feels 🥹

How to train for your first marathon #marathon #marathontraining #runner #running #runstagram

25 miles with 3k ft of vert✅ slowly building my long runs back up after my 50 miler. There’s something addicting about watching your endurance rebuild week by week. If this is your year, here are 10 things I wish someone had told me before my first marathon ⬇️ 1️⃣ Training doesn’t have to be perfect, consistency beats the odd missed run. 2️⃣ The long runs really matter. They build confidence, resilience, and teach your body how to keep going. Your legs need those miles. My longest was 32km pre race day. 3️⃣ Your body will feel things you’ve never felt before, not every ache is an injury but every ache is one to listen to & a few rest days will be worth it to prevent it becoming an injury. 4️⃣ Don’t put pressure on yourself for a finish time. Your first marathon is about finishing, not proving anything. Enjoy it! 5️⃣ Fuel earlier than you think you need to, practice it in training. Also have a good understanding of fuelling stations along the route. Know your game plan! I trialled about 6 different gel brands before I found one I could stomach. 6️⃣ Taper week will mess with your head. Phantom pains are real and usually harmless. I had so many (went to physio twice that week) 🙈 7️⃣ You’ll be way more sore after than you expect, stairs will hurt and your appetite might feel all over the place. Totally normal. My appetite didn’t build again for a few days after. 8️⃣ Race day adrenaline is powerful, start slower than you want to. Trust me! Know the pace you are aiming for & save your splits as your wallpaper or write it on your arm (incase GPS is wrong - most are off slightly). 9️⃣ Walking breaks and plan changes are allowed. You still earn the medal. 🥇 🔟 Crossing the finish line will change how you see yourself for the rest of your life and that confidence lasts. If you’re running your first marathon this year, I’m so proud of you already 💛 I ran my first two marathons last year. This one was my very first in Chicago!! 3.53, afterwards I ran Amsterdam in 4.07 💫 Save this for the hard training days and trust the process 🏁 #running #marathon #advice

UNFORGETTABLE MARATHON JOURNEY 🥹❤️ Every race was unique and a rollercoaster of emotions. The NEW YORK MARATHON was the first marathon of my life, and at the finish line I was so proud of this achievement. I felt like a superhero. The BERLIN MARATHON was where I set my PB, cutting 17 minutes off my time. That gave me a lot of confidence 💪 Then came the LONDON MARATHON, which wasn’t a good day for me. The finishing time was far from my goal, but I was still glad to have finished it. Completing a marathon is always a great achievement. At the CHICAGO MARATHON, I was so happy to race again, and then came the TOKYO MARATHON, where I set my second best time ever. The BOSTON MARATHON was my last Marathon Major, and it was a real party. Crossing that finish line, I realized one of my dreams: becoming a SIX STAR MARATHON FINISHER ⭐️ I’m so proud of this journey, made of ups and downs, happy and difficult moments, smiles and tears ✨ After each race, you become a different runner, and marathon after marathon, you carry something precious in your heart forever 😍🙏🏻 #marathon #reels #emotional #life #running

There is a specific kind of power that comes from knowing exactly what it takes to finish. 🏃🏻♀️💨 We don’t just “run miles”—we audit the entire experience of the race. The last 195 meters are built on every tear shed during the training block. It’s not just a run; it’s a total system reset. * More than a race. ✅ * A mental and emotional blueprint. ✅ * The tears are part of the process. ✅ Just sharing the journey, one kilometer at a time. 🕊️🔥 . . . . . . . #marathon #runner #running #women #run
