2 bachelors, 2 masters and 1 PhD without student debt, here’s how: Undergrad, double bachelors: I lived at home and worked multiple part-time jobs to cover fees, books, transportation, and meals. -Year 1 & 2: Covered by FAFSA (grants) -Year 3 & 4: I was no longer eligible for FAFSA. A little more than half of my tuition was covered by scholarships from the Honors college. The rest was out of pocket paid by my parents ($5k-7k each year). Masters 1: I lived away from home and worked two jobs to cover rent, bills, car note, fees and other expenses. -I did a 12 month program that was covered by a tuition waiver for fall and spring, but I paid ~$2k for fees. The summer term which was my full-time internship, was not covered by my waiver and was $8k. But, I received two scholarships from my department that left me and my parents to pay $4k out of pocket. Masters 2 and PhD: I lived at home year 1 and then moved out and had similar expenses to pay as before when I didn’t live at home. This second masters was en route to my PhD. I received a tuition waiver and an assistantship for 5 years. I also worked part-time over the summers and held multiple research assistantships. For one year, received a national fellowship that covered my tuition and provided a stipend. Lastly, I had a state-wide fellowship for 4 years. Keep in mind these six years, I received many small scholarships to cover conferences, research expenses etc. -Fees were not covered for the duration of my program, so I paid ~$800 each semester for 6 years, 12 semesters = ~$9,600 total. In sum, graduating without student debt is not easy but it is possible! I applied for scholarships each year and sometimes each semester to cover any school related expenses. I also had the help of my parents for my undergrad and first masters. Saving and budgeting was also essential given that my part time jobs and stipends were low amounts.

Two degrees I don’t usually recommend anymore: 1. MIM (Master’s in Management) 2. Business Analytics Why? Because MIM is just a cash cow degree in European universities and Business Analytics is quietly becoming what MBA became 3–4 years ago — overcrowded, overpromised, and under-delivering for many. Here’s what’s actually happening on the ground: • Too many grads with similar “dashboard + SQL + Python” profiles • Not enough roles that justify H1B sponsorship • Companies expecting prior experience for even entry-level analytics roles And when it comes to H1B? It’s simple. If the role is not critical enough, companies won’t file. Business Analytics often falls into that grey zone. This doesn’t mean the degree is useless. It means the way it’s being pursued is generic. And that’s the real risk. Meanwhile, I’m seeing students from more technical or niche programs: • Getting interviews faster • Converting roles that actually sponsor • Standing out with clearer skill depth So no, Business Analytics is no longer the shortcut to get into high tech industry. It’s usually a warning sign. In my latest YouTube video, I mention 7 degrees which are most impacted by in the NEW H1B Lottery system. It covers: • Which degrees are strongest for H1B right now • Which ones are becoming saturated (including Business Analytics) • Which ones still work — but only if done right • And how to think about your degree choice in 2025–26 Watch if you are looking for no BS study abroad advice - https://youtu.be/X4Xn_LSvmf8 Please watch and share your feedback!
