A 577 sq/m (6,220 sq ft) house in Meath at the centre of a 20-year long legal battle is expected to be demolished by the end of the week. The house in Bohermeen, Co Meath, was built in 2006 without planning permission. It is understood the arrival of a demolition crew is imminent. A security team comprising of 13 vehicles arrived to the house at Bohermeen just after 11am. The vehicles proceeded up the driveway of the home. Owner Rose Murray joined #NewsAtOne

Today Meath Council started the demolition of an Irish family's home that was built without planning permission 20 years ago.

"We just simply want to move into our houses, they’re fully ready.” Elma Beirne and John Ennis put down a €30,000 deposit on their home in County Meath back in 2020. Five years later, despite their house being fully built and finished, they still haven’t been allowed to move in. They say the developer repeatedly delayed the project, later requested additional money, and has now moved to liquidate the site, leaving just five families facing an uncertain future. Elma and John, who have already invested in upgrades and appliances, say they can’t simply walk away. With a growing family and mounting financial pressure, they’re calling for their binding contracts to be honoured so they can finally move into their home. #irelandam
