This is one of Melbourne’s most underrated sandwich spots! 👀 @warkop_melbourne melbourne is a sandwich and coffee spot inspired by “warung kopi” - the small roadside cafes found throughout Indonesia - with locations in Risely St Richmond and Little Collins St, in Melbourne CBD. 🇮🇩 Opened by longtime friends Barry and Erwin Chandra, who first met 11 years ago after moving to Australia from Indonesia and worked together at @dukes_coffee in Windsor. The idea for the shop started during lockdowns when Barry was working as a sous chef at @restaurantnavi in Yarraville. He began making sandwiches from home as staff meals coworkers using Indonesian flavours and ingredients and the response was so great the two decided to open something of their own, celebrating the flavours of home. The menu is small, with just a handful of sandwiches, breakfast muffins, housemade sweets and pastries. Each location has a slightly different offering, plus the Richmond location also gets a weekly rotating special (Fridays and Saturdays only). ⭐️ Fillet o Fish, fried rockling, house tartare, sambal matah, alfalfa, potato roll - a huge sandwich with juicy fish, a super crispy crumb and lots of flavour throughout. ⭐️ Warkop Fried Chicken, kohlrabi, bazzinga sauce, potato roll - apparently the crowd favourite and definitely ours too. Doesn’t just taste like every other fried chicken sandwich. ✔️ Tuna Melt Cakalang - more seafood forward than your usual tuna sandwich, almost roe like in flavour. Really interesting and different! ✔️ Beef Brisket & Pickle - subtle rendang flavours throughout which worked really well. ✔️ Kaya Crueller ⭐️ Pandan Lamington ✔️ Palm Sugar Iced Coffee ✔️ Iced Matcha ⭐️ Passionfruit Fizz The Indonesian touches throughout are very subtle rather than overpowering, kind of like familiar classics with little twists woven in. Having the small menu means everything is executed well! Definitely feels like an underrated gem for Melbourne. Have you visited?
