This is a single-celled organism and it’s feeding on another one. . The huntress here is a Lacrymaria olor. It means “Tears of a swan” because of its swan-like neck and tear-shaped body. . Lacrymaria olor beats the hair-like cilia around its “head” and extends its neck up to 10 times of its body length. If we were able to do that, it would be like flapping your ears rapidly, extending your neck with your head to ground from the fourth floor. 😂 . The food, Halteria, was already immobilized when the head touched it. There are some toxin-ejecting harpoon-like structures at the tip of Lacrymaria’s head. They pierce Halteria’s cell, and melt it right away. . This is my 1000th post 🎉 I wanted it to be special and show my face for this milestone but overthinking got me crippled.
