How To Stick To Your Habits Without Relying On Discipline 📓

How To Stick To Your Habits Without Relying On Discipline 📓✨ For the longest time I thought I just “lacked discipline.” But most habit systems fail for one simple reason: They track outcomes. They don’t train behavior. A dopamine diary is different. It is not a streak tracker. It is not a perfection chart. It is not a “don’t break the chain” system. It is a weekly habit scoreboard built around how habits actually stick. Here is what most habit trackers get wrong: What normal habit trackers do • focus on big outcomes instead of tiny starting actions • rely on streak pressure to keep you consistent • make you feel behind the moment you miss a day • assume motivation will show up before action That is why they work… for about a week. Here is what a dopamine diary does differently 🌿 • uses the 2-minute rule so every habit is easy to start • rewards completion immediately with a visible mark • tracks participation, not perfection • resets weekly so you never carry guilt forward James Clear says: “A habit must be established before it can be improved.” That is the key. Instead of writing “go to the gym,” you write “put on workout clothes.” Instead of “read 30 minutes,” you write “read one page.” Because the brain does not resist tiny starts. And once you start, momentum takes over. The reason this works is not discipline. It is dopamine. Every checkmark is a small reward. And the brain repeats what gets rewarded. You are not trying to become perfect. You are trying to become someone who shows up. Sometimes we do not need more willpower. We need a system that makes showing up easier than avoiding. If you want my exact dopamine diary layout, color system, and habit examples, comment “check” and I will send it to you 🤍 Save this for the next time you think you “just need more discipline.” ✨ More side quests coming soon 🌿 Follow @laurenfoisy.journals for ways to enjoy real life again 🤍 #standaretopost

5 habits that are hard to start but pay off forever: I’m not gonna lie, these habits are difficult to build at first, but once they stuck, they completely changed how I approach my days as a student. The key is starting small and being consistent: 1. Waking up earlier → I started with just 30 mins earlier than usual and now I genuinely love having those morning hours to myself before the day gets chaotic to either do some work or workout. The clarity and control you get from starting your day intentionally (not scrolling) is unmatched and I always find I am most productive in those earlier hours before the day’s distractions start to come in! 2. Moving my body daily → Building consistency with the gym /running has been life-changing. Not just physically, but mentally too. Research shows that being physically active as a young adult has extensive benefits that carry throughout your life + I think it’s so important as a women to grow/maintain women as there are so many positive effects for later on in life. Plus it just puts me in a better mood and helps with focus! Find a movement that works for you, even if it’s going on a daily walk:) 3. Reading 10 pages a day → In a culture where everything is fast-paced and instant, slowing down to actually consume information through books has been so important. You get to control what you’re consuming and educate yourself intentionally. I used to mindlessly scroll, and while I am definitely not perfect at ever doing it, I find that when I am reading I pick up my Kindle so much more than my phone + it just helps me be a lot more intentional with going on my phone. 4. Time with myself → Whether it’s journaling, going for a walk, or just sitting with my thoughts - taking time to intentionally check in with myself has been non-negotiable. It helps me understand what I actually need (rest vs pushing through) and keeps me grounded when life gets busy. 5. Prioritising deep work → 2-3 hours of fully focused work (no phone, no distractions) beats 6 hours of half-distracted studying any day. #timeblock #deepwork #productivity #habitforming #habit

One thing I’m taking into 2024 is habit stacking. I get it, you might be thinking, “ANOTHER thing to add to my to-do list?” But trust me, habit stacking is a game-changer that can make your life easier and happier 🌟 Here’s the secret: Pair something you HAVE to do with something you WANT to do. Or, you can get creative (like me in the above) and combine multiple habits to supercharge your time management. Take my example: Elevating my legs during meditation. By combining meditation with leg elevation, I knock out two healthy habits in just 10-minutes! More ideas to inspire you: - Run on the treadmill while watching your favourite TV show 🏃‍♀️📺 - Walking while listening to a new podcast ep 🧹🎧 - Do the laundry while catching up with a friend on the phone 👚📞 - Morning Celery juice with added super greens powder - Brush your teeth while reading morning affirmations on a post it on your mirror 🪥 - Making the bed in the morning and leaving your gratitude journal on your pillow 🛏️ - Morning meditation with a sad lamp sat on a red light mat 🧘🏼‍♀️ - Body brushing before a hot and cold shower 🚿 - Red light mask with legs elevated before you go to sleep Let me know in the comments what activities you habit stack or if you’re going to give it a go in 2024? #habitstacking #wellnessjourney #healthyhabits #habitstackingforsuccess

3 tiny daily habits that upgraded my life (steal these to upgrade yours too): 1. No phone for 30 minutes post-wakeup. I used to be one of those people who checked their phone before even getting out of bed. It was a deeply unhealthy practice. Checking your phone to start your day is an invitation for stress. The immediate burst of notifications, requests, and questions starts your day on a bad note. Creating boundaries and giving yourself the space to start the day on your terms is essential. Go through a few morning rituals—whatever rituals you prefer—before checking your phone. 2. Grayscale mode at least 90% of the day. Grayscale mode removes all of the crazy attractive colors and features of your phone that are specifically designed by these companies to make them addicting. When you put your phone on Grayscale mode, you eliminate the urge to pick it up and “just check” throughout the day. That one tiny change will make you more productive (and much more present!) in every single activity. 3. 1-1-1 journaling every evening. Before going to bed at night, write down: • 1 win from the day • 1 point of gratitude • 1 point of tension, anxiety, or stress Writing down the win gives you a pat on the back for whatever you accomplished (no matter how small). Writing down the point of gratitude gives you more appreciation for your life Writing down the point of tension gets it off your mind and onto the paper so that you can unwind and fall asleep with a clear head. I’ve been doing this for over a year and it completely changed my sleep and daily mindset. *** Those 3 tiny changes have had a major impact on my life. The best part: They’re all free and take very little time or energy to implement. Give them a shot and let me know what you think! Enjoy this? Share it with your friends!

Small habits. Big shift. Most people ignore these. Big changes don’t come from big moves. They come from small things—done consistently. The problem? We overlook the simple stuff because it feels too easy. But that’s exactly where the power is. Tiny resets Small mindset shifts Simple daily actions Do them daily → everything compounds. Don’t try all 10. Pick 2. Stay consistent. Save this. Come back to it. Follow @notes.book.daily for more. #SmallHabits #SelfImprovement #DailyHabits #MindsetShift #notesbookdaily
