The trend involves braiding the hair first, then going back in and crocheting boho / feathered pieces. Sounds fine… until it’s time for takedown. The crochet knot is extremely tiny, which makes it almost impossible to loosen the traditional way you would with crochet hair. Cutting it off doesn’t make sense either, especially considering how expensive the hair is—and the fact that it’s meant to be reusable. So the next option is sliding the crochet piece down the braid… and that’s where the damage can happen. If your hair is natural or kinky, your ends can catch as that knot slides down the hair shaft. The further you slide it, the tighter the knot cinches. Once it closes up, it’s not loosening—your only option becomes pulling your hair through the knot, and that’s how hair gets ripped. I’ve already demonstrated this on a cornrow, and I’ll be showing it again on a plait in my next video. I don’t like calling out problems without offering solutions, so here it is: Just braid the pieces in. You’re already braiding the hair. Going back in to crochet the pieces is redundant. When the pieces are braided in, takedown is smooth like butter. And for the girls who don’t braid—find a stylist willing to feed the pieces in for a small upcharge. It’s not the same amount of work as human-hair braids, and it shouldn’t cost the same either. At The Braiddown Bar, we assist you with doing your own hair. Miracle knots are taking over! A quick tutorial hair: @ywigs_official 5bundles(2.5 packs- 50 pieces per bundle) | 20" bodywave hair. Size medium (56 plaits total) Install tips & best practices 1. Be generous with the gel. I use @redonewaxofficial gel. Once it dries it does NOT move 2. Don't tie the pieces in knots, it'll be 10x harder to take down and more difficult to reuse. 3. I wouldn't do braids smaller than a medium size, the more hair you add the more tension on your natural hair. 4. Do the ends first, you will need a whole bundle. 5. no mousse! no product! * you can 100% add miracle knots to regular knotless braids with synthetic hair p.s.- I promise im doing a take down video this time bc the girls are screaming breakage and I just cannot relate.
