It's often used to detect muscle weakness, neurological dysfunction, or to track recovery progress. 📊 MMT Grading System: The 0–5 Scale Grade Muscle Strength Description Details 0 No muscle contraction No visible or palpable movement 1 Trace contraction Slight contraction but no movement 2 Poor: Full range of motion (ROM) without gravity Can move limb in gravity-eliminated position 3 Fair: Full ROM against gravity, no added resistance Can lift limb against gravity only 4 Good: Full ROM against gravity, moderate resistance Muscle can handle some resistance 5 Normal: Full ROM against gravity and maximal resistance Strong, normal muscle function 🦴 How MMT Is Performed Positioning: The patient is positioned to isolate the muscle being tested. Stabilization: The therapist stabilizes the nearby joints to prevent compensation. Instruction: The patient is asked to perform a movement (e.g., shoulder abduction). Resistance: The clinician applies gradual resistance opposite the direction of movement.
