It's a new year and with that comes a new post. While I'm lining up for more major announcements, I'm dropping this clip of one of my scenes from the animated series, Monkey Wrench, in which I voice Campion Ajax, the proud and powerful head of House Barrack. Having voiced several games and animation, Campion is definitely in the top 5 of the most fun that I had recording. In this episode Strike and Beebs unwind at a casino to wait out a traffic jam, where Strike blows company money on gambling and Beebs runs into the arrogant member of his species, Campion Ajax. “Monkey Wrench” – Foo Fighters (1997, Studio Version) @foofighters I love this damn song. Always have. And I’ll die on the hill that it’s one of the most underrated tracks of the ‘90s. Everyone talks about “Everlong” (rightfully), but “Monkey Wrench” is a full-throttle emotional purge—loud, unfiltered, and cathartic as hell. That opening riff kicks the door in, and by the time Grohl’s throat-shredding scream hits, it’s total combustion. This wasn’t background music—this was therapy, set to drums. Dropped as the lead single off The Colour and the Shape, this was the moment Foo Fighters stopped being “that thing Grohl did after Nirvana” and became a juggernaut of their own. The track was recorded at Grandmaster Recorders in Hollywood with producer Gil Norton, who pushed the band toward a sharper, more aggressive sound. Grohl recorded almost all the instruments himself again (because of course he did), but it was also the debut of Taylor Hawkins as the band’s official drummer—just not yet on this recording. The scream at the bridge? One take. No overdub.
