Why moray eels always look angry? They’re not. Moray eels open and close their mouth to breathe, pumping water over their gills to get oxygen. They also have a symbiotic relationship with certain cleaner fish, which remove parasites from their body and even from inside the mouth. Nothing aggressive here. Moray eels have terrible eye-sight and rely heavily on their incredible sense of smell to catch their prey. Nocturnal by nature it is not common to see moray honeycombs like this out and about during the day, which is such a shame as their swimming and body movement is so mesmerising to watch. Although their snake like bodies and sharp jagged teeth are intimidating on the eye, moray eels are in general, actually very gentle and relaxed creatures. Only ever really causing harm when disturbed or feeling threatened. The more time I spent with these ocean dragons the more I appreciate them and their surprisingly calm and often soft personalities. #morayeel #honeycombmorayeel #eel #marinelife
