So many moments that went undocumented at #SDCC this year, but I was fortunate to talk to many friends, respected colleagues, and fellow fans. Here are my highlights: -Just an intimate 1-on-5k chat with fans of CBS’ Ghosts with me solo on stage (because SAG-AFTRA/WGA are fighting the good fight and couldn’t attend) -My buddy @mingchen37 came by the @denofgeek studios to chat toys -Hilarious times chatting #ThirdEye @audible fantasy-comedy series with @feliciaday @thelondonhughes @jonahray Rodrigues -SDCC Crossover! Ming stuck around and hung out with the ‘Third Eye’ Folks -I didn’t know much about the artists behind @loungefly but had a blast getting to know @lizdesilvadesigns & @deewrecked -I sat down to chat with @garethedwardsofficial Gareth Edwards, and asked him, “What’s something no one has spoken to you about?” And he proceeded to tell me what sounded like a crazy UFO story (and we spoke about his new movie #TheCreator) -#HauntedMansion director @justin_simien is so cool, nice and a true #spookynerd -Chuck Russell directed so many iconic movies (#NightmareOnElmStreet 3, Dreamscape, The Mask) and he teased his re-imagining of #Witchboard -At last caught up with my friend @ivydoomkitty at #MoshEisley -Speaking of #MoshEisley — it was an insanely fun #StarWars emo party -I could talk to @brianvolkweiss & @nacellecompany all day long about pop culture, toys, and just all things nerdy. This must be like interview 12 with him by now -@bduttafilms is a guy to watch, and his horror flick ‘It Lives Inside’ (coming Sept. 22) introduces an Indian supernatural entities to audiences -#TonightWeTiki! Met up with @beelinecreative and @janell_o6 for a takeover of the speakeasy tiki bar @thegrassskirtsd -There are few people I am as happy to talk to as @dastmalchian . He’s sincere, authentic, and knows his monster movies, folklore, and paranormal phenomena (You gotta check out @countcrowley) -I mean, @jamieleecurtis ?! C’mon, how cool is she? We spoke about her new #MotherNature comic, and I just basked in her awesomeness - @theartistshag is one of my favorite artists out there right now, and I geeked out big time seeing him again #sdcc2023

On paper, Elsy Wameyo's music seems contradictory: a complex intersection of hip-hop, gospel, jazz and heavy dance elements seems unrelenting. Her debut EP "Nilotic", however, is a truly cohesive and visceral journey meandering through each of those sounds, typifying the talent and ear of Adelaide's Elsy Wameyo. In practice, Elsy can make anything work. Born in Nairobi, Elsy performs in Swahili, Luo and English, her background providing vital context to the melting pot that makes up her sound. Her "Nilotic" journey saw Elsy and her 7-piece band drop in to Phoenix Central Park on a tour run across the country with stops at Splendour in the Grass and Lost Paradise. One of the more buoyant and exciting performances of the year, we captured "Sulwe", a jazz-rap fusion that sees Elsy skate over rumbling dubsteppy basslines, with director Danny Draxx uniquely capturing her aura of strength and confidence. "Sulwe", or "star", is a journey of self-discovery and empowerment, ultimately recognising that "urembo hauwezi kupunguza": 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘦𝘥.
