As you all probably know, the two men were uncle and nephew and their relationship was so close that the now King Charles referred to Lord Mountbatten as his honorary grandfather. It is said that Louis Mountbatten, brother to Prince Philip‘s mother Alice, was the mastermind behind the marriage of his nephew with Princess Elizabeth. At least he made sure the young man was present when the royal family paid their famous visit to the naval college in Dartmouth. It was not the first meeting of Philip and Elizabeth, since they had met before in 1934 at the wedding of her uncle Prince George, Duke of Kent with his cousin Princess Marina of Greece. Lord Mountbatten, later the 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, was married to Edwina Ashley, with whom he had two daughters, Patricia and Pamela. They lived rather separate lives with Lord Mountbatten reportedly having said one time: „Edwina and I spent all our married lives getting into other people's beds.“ He was the grandfather of the current Earl Mountbatten of Burma, Norton Knatchbull. When Prince Philip renounced his greek and danish titles in 1947 and became a british citizen to be able to marry Princess Elizabeth, he took his uncle‘s surname and was henceforth known as Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten – until november of course. The Bovingdon nursery today went to visit one of our local residential homes, Mount Batten house in Bovingdon 🏠 our chef baked some delicious mince pies to take up and some of our children sang our whoops a daisy soundtrack for everyone to enjoy! One of the residents als dressed up as Santa and gifted the children there very own little gift bags, so generous and super festive 🎄 the children had a wonderful time and all behaved so beautifully.
