Here’s my top 3 beginner friendly 4,000m mountains so you can get into high altitude mountaineering! 👆🏔️ Which one are you climbing first? 🏔️ #mountaineering #4000mpeaks #alps #mountaineer #mountainclimbers

I receive numerous questions from individuals eager to try mountaineering but unsure of how to start. Here’s my list outlining the essential steps👇 1) Research and Education: * Read books, watch documentaries, and follow experienced mountaineers to gain insights into their journeys. 2) Physical Fitness: * Concentrate on developing strength, endurance, and cardiovascular fitness. 3) Join a Climbing Course: * Enroll in a mountaineering course to acquire technical skills, safety measures, and knowledge about gear usage. 4) Find a Hiking/Climbing Club Near You: * Join like-minded people in local hiking or climbing clubs. * Develop basic outdoor skills within these groups and connect with experienced climbers. 5) Start Small: * Begin with smaller mountains or local hills to gain practical experience. * Learn to navigate different terrains and handle varying weather conditions. * Try trekking first to assess your comfort with living in tents in freezing temperatures. 6) Acquire Gear: * Invest in high-quality gear, including clothing, footwear, and climbing equipment. * Understand the significance of gear maintenance and proper usage. 7) Gradual Progression: * Progress to higher and more challenging peaks gradually. * Set realistic goals and continually push your limits. * Climb for the passion, not for fame or attention; acknowledgment will follow as a result of your achievements. 8) Safety First: * Prioritise safety protocols and adhere to ethical climbing practices. 9) Respect the Environment: * Practice Leave No Trace principles. * Cultivate a deep appreciation for the natural environment and actively contribute to its preservation. Remember, mountaineering demands dedication, continuous learning, and a strong commitment to safety. Always prioritise responsible climbing practices. One of the first rules in climbing is: use your legs. Link in bio🔗 But at the beginning, most climbers naturally do the opposite. We try to hold on with the hands, pull with the arms, and think about how not to fall, not about how to move. This is even more common if you already have strong arms. You can solve some moves by pulling harder, and yes, this can build grip strength. But coordination does not improve much if every move starts from the upper body. A useful drill is to imagine that your hand on the hold becomes a rigid lever. Not completely locked, but quiet. The hand fixes the point of support, the elbow stays almost straight, and your goal is to switch off the arm as much as possible. Now your brain has to find movement somewhere else: in the feet, hips, torso, and center of mass. This helps you stop thinking only about holding the wall and start feeling how to move your body on the wall. Because climbing is not just about pulling yourself up. It is about coordinating the whole body around points of support. 👉EternaClimb. Stop pulling. Start moving. #climbing #climber #climbinglife #rockclimbing #climbingtraining

You might see me running up crazy ridges but sometimes the fear gets me too!! When you’re confident it’s “super grippy” until your mind starts thinking of the “what ifs” 🙃 #sportsnutrition #sportsdietitian #trailrunning #running #endurancedietitian #ultrarunning #trail #trailrunner #runningnutrition #endurance #mountain #ridge

While I don’t recommend my training plan, I’ve learned that the best type of training is the training that actually happens. Back in college I was a highly motivated individual and stuck to a super regulated training program. It was amazing for me at the time, and I was able to push my body beyond what I ever thought possible, but it ended in burn out and ultimately leaving my participation in that sport behind. To prepare for Everest I just maximized my time in the outdoors, doing meaningful objectives with great company. Rock climbing, although very different from mountain climbing teaches you technical skills, how to think on your feet, and how to be in the moment. While skiing in the backcountry has taught me how to move on snow and deal with the cold. Regardless both of those activity’s passively gave me a decent uphill milage base, while carrying a pack… #climbing #everest #training #rockclimbing #noplacetoofar #backcountryskiing #skimountaineering #skimo #climbingismypassion #everest2022 #goals #gains

Then, once you got all your coordination and eye training in, you get to do this. . . But seriously, running in technical terrain does require logging lots of time in low-risk situations before you should strike out on a knife-edge ridge. And while I’ve done the ground work, I also find I have to re-build to it every season, getting surefooted, confident and ready again. But once I put in the time, I get to feel that freedom. . 🎥 @julenelorza . #trailrunning #skyrunning #ridgerunner #lesfiz #derochoir #alps #france #noplacetoofar #liverunrepeat #gofarfeelgood #backon74 #balance #coordination #trailready #offtrail #runthedistance

What is the difference ? ⬇️ The “cross-step” in mountaineering consists of walking diagonally up a steep slope, crossing feet at each step. This technique reduces muscular effort, improves balance and offers better grip on slippery terrain such as snow or ice. Ideal for saving energy, it is an essential asset for difficult climbs. 🏔️ Follow my adventures here 👉 @naelft . . #alpinism #mountaineering #mountains #climbing #hiking #mountainlife #adventure #trekking #mountainview #outdoors

Which mountain shall we do next? 🗻 This has been on my bucket list for quite some time - doing Mont Blanc from the valley AND BACK in under 24 hours. This is the Goûter Route from Les Houches and takes most mountaineers between 3-5 days, often including a cable car and train up the first 1400 metres (which we of course did not opt for). Final time up and down Inc stops: 16 hours 💪 Big shout to @markjameschase for getting us up and down safely and waiting for me on the climb up to the glacier which nearly broke me. And @ospreyeurope for the epic pack as always. I’m keen to try more big mountains in a ‘oner’ - which shall I go for next? ______ #montblanc #chamonix #mountaineering #trailrunning #ultrarunning
