Mutual aid is a powerful reminder of our accountability and responsibility to one another, but it is not universally accessible. The values behind it matter deeply, yet mutual aid is not a system everyone can rely on when they need support. Too often, help is tied to visibility, meaning those who are seen and heard are more likely to receive care in an aggressive, unfavorable algorithm. This is why we need Community Welfare Systems, structures designed to catch and support everyone, not just those who can be visible. Managing over 70 mutual aid campaigns is not something I do alone. It has always been a collective effort — people connecting people, opening doors for one another. This story began with Miss Gnomers, someone I quietly watched on TikTok years ago while I was still finding my voice. Her courage helped me build mine. And recently, she connected me to Miss Rain — a woman facing serious health challenges of her own, yet still showing up to help others. Together, we launched three campaigns for families who need urgent care and support: a father and daughter who need pacemakers, a young girl living in a tent after losing her family, and a teenage boy suffering from severe dental pain. This is what mutual aid looks like. Not one hero. Not one savior. Just people — turning pain into empathy, and empathy into action. Thank you to everyone who continues to stand with these families.
