Two versions of the music video for ‘Got My Mind Set On You’ (1987), directed by Gary Weis. The first version, set in an arcade, features Alexis Denisof trying to win the heart of a girl. As she watches Harrison and his band performing the song through a movie viewer, he attempts to win a toy ballerina for her. The second version, inspired by Sam Raimi’s ‘Evil Dead II’, was choreographed by Vincent Paterson. This version became more popular and was nominated for three MTV VMAs. ‘Got My Mind Set On You’ was released on 12 October 1987. Written by Rudy Clark, the song was originally recorded by James Ray in 1962 under the title ‘I’ve Got My Mind Set On You’. Harrison first heard it while visiting his sister Louise in Illinois in September 1963. The single was a huge hit for Harrison, topping the charts in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Ireland, and the USA. In the UK, it peaked at number two for four weeks, held off the top spot by T’Pau’s ‘China in Your Hand’. It also reached the top ten in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, Sweden, and West Germany. It was Harrison’s final US number-one single, and the last by any former Beatle to top the Billboard Hot 100. Remarkably, it reached the top spot the week before The Beatles’ induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and was Billboard’s third best-selling single of 1988.
