We placed this paper nautilus temporarily in one of our paua tanks to monitor its condition and give it the best chance to recover. It will be returned to its natural habitat shortly. Finding a live paper nautilus washed ashore is extremely rare, and survival in these conditions is unlikely without intervention. Our goal is simple: protect, care for it, and return it safely. I recently found and prepared this beauty from the Jurassic coast of Dorset. I found it whilst washing my wellies off in a river and it was just laying there in front of me. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it. I had no idea what would be inside but hoped for an ammonite. It was a nice surprise to have a nautilus instead! Nautilus never went extinct like ammonites. Ketemu makhluk yang kayaknya keluar dari museum. Yap, ini dia Nautilus, hewan laut yang udah hidup lebih dari 500 juta tahun lalu. Bayangin, dia udah eksis bahkan sebelum dinosaurus muncul! Yang bikin makin gokil, bentuknya hampir nggak berubah sejak jutaan tahun lalu, makanya dia sering disebut fosil hidup. Cangkangnya punya banyak ruangan kecil yang ngebantu dia ngatur daya apung biar bisa ngambang atau turun ke kedalaman. Nautilus nggak punya penglihatan bagus, tapi tentakelnya yang super banyak itu sensitif banget dan bisa bantu dia cari makanan kayak kepiting kecil atau bangkai di laut. Tapi meskipun keliatannya kalem, Nautilus itu pejuang yang udah berhasil bertahan dari lima kepunahan massal. Sayangnya, sekarang justru mereka terancam karena perburuan cangkang yang unik itu.
