The nasca lines are geoglyphs in Nasca Peru created between 500 BC and 500 AD! In total, there are over 800 straight lines, 300 geometric figures and 70 animal and plant designs, also called biomorphs. Some of the straight lines run up to 30 miles, while the biomorphs range from 50 to 1200 feet in length (as large as the Empire State Building). Although there is no confirmed reason for the lines, some of the theories are pretty interesting! - Being calendrical and astronomical signs, this is the largest scale calendar in the world - Made by aliens who used the lines as landing strips - An astronomical observatory and map to observe different celestial events - Part of a ritual practice for the worship of water - They were used as a guide to point to the closest sources of groundwater What do you think? . . . . . . . #travel #visitperu #nasca #nascalines #history #desert #theory #theories #aliens #photo #photography #girlswhotravel #bucketlist #goworldtravel

Fresh Nazca geoglyphs discovered… and the shapes are wild New Nazca Lines Discovered in Peru — Symbols Only Seen From the Sky #nazca #nazcalines #discovery #peru #discovered

The Nazca Lines are a collection of large geoglyphs etched into the arid plains of the Nazca Desert in southern Peru, created by the Nazca culture between approximately 200 BC and 600 AD. Spanning nearly 1,000 square kilometers, these geoglyphs consist of hundreds of figures, including straight lines, geometric shapes, and detailed depictions of animals, plants, and human-like figures. Some of the most iconic designs include the hummingbird, monkey, spider, and condor. The lines were made by removing the reddish-brown surface stones to reveal the lighter earth underneath, creating striking contrasts that have endured for over a millennium. The largest figures can reach up to 1,200 feet (370 meters) in length, and while they are visible from nearby hills, their full scale is best appreciated from the air. The purpose of the Nazca Lines remains a subject of debate among researchers. Some theories suggest they were related to astronomical or calendrical functions, serving as markers for solstices or constellations. Other hypotheses propose they were linked to religious or ceremonial practices, possibly associated with water rituals, as water was a crucial resource in the desert environment. Despite numerous studies, the exact purpose of the lines remains one of archaeology’s enduring mysteries, fueling various speculations and continuing intrigue. Like our content? Guess what scientists from the University of Dresden discovered concerning the Nazca Lines? #nazca #nazcalines #nazcaperu #perù #peru #paracas #icaperu #ica #history #ancienthistory #historypodcast

You’ve seen the Nazca Lines in books, in theories, in pixelated satellite shots — but until you’re above them, tracing their patterns from the sky, you can’t truly grasp their scale. Perfect shapes carved into the desert, by hands long gone. Lines so vast, they’re invisible on the ground — meant only for the gods, the sky, the dreamers above. And in that moment, as the plane tilts and dips, you don’t just see them — you feel them. Your stomach lurches, your chest tightens, your breath catches somewhere between wonder and vertigo. The sheer magnitude of it all presses against you — an ancient force stretching beyond comprehension. The kind of awe that rattles your bones and leaves you weightless, suspended between history and the heavens. #DrJones #Explore #SouthAmerica #NazcaLines #Nazca #Aviation #History
