📌 Double negative construct (linguists call it negative concord or emphatic negation) is common in many Slavic languages. 🤭 When translated literally these sentences do sound funny in English. Like this one: - Niko nikome ne veruje. = Nobody does not trust nobody (literal). 🙅‍♀️ But multiple negations are the correct way to express a particular phrase in Serbian. 👀 Here are some common negative words in the Serbian language: NIKO = Nobody NIŠTA= Nothing NIKADA= Never NIGDE= Nowhere NIKAKO= by no means ✍️ Also, remember that we write the negative verbs in Serbian (except for 4 verbs that are an exception to this rule) with the particle “ne” separated from the main verb e.g.: Ja ne verujem= I don’t trust Ja ne znam= I don’t know Ja ne volim= I don’t like So, how many negations did you count in the last sentence in the video? 🤔
