🚩🚩🚩Oh Xeloda, I had so much hope for us but after only 3 freaking DAYS of being together, you sent me to the ER and I’m now on a hospital retreat. Yes, I got to have my first ambulance ride…but these aren’t the kind of “firsts” I wanted to experience together🫠. I’m so glad you’re healing so many of my thriver friends, but you are NOT the one for me. Byyyyyyye forever! 🥀😭😩 ❤️Bethany Ok this SUCKS! And was so unexpected…I’ve never had heart issues in my 10+ years on cancer treatments. On Saturday night, I started having intense chest pain but couldn’t tell if it was crazy heartburn, reflux, indigestion, or a heart attack?…by 4am I told Tim we needed to go to the ER. Luckily they’ve ruled out any permanent heart damage and blood clots - it looks like it was a rare side effect of the chemo called “Coronary Vasospasm.” It was painful + scary and I’m grateful for the AMAZING care I’ve experienced and am now on the mend. This type of side effect could be life threatening so I’m really lucky it was caught early. But it does mean Xeloda is done. I’m so bummed to lose a line of MBC treatment like this and will be getting a liver biopsy tomorrow to see if the genetic makeup of cancer has changed from ER+ HER2 low to triple negative. Then we’ll meet with my oncologist Friday to talk about treatment options + clinical trials. Again. 😑 UGH I AM READY FOR CANCER TO BE BORING! Love you all and will keep you updated…I probably won’t be able to respond to many messages right now. And I’m not looking for medical advice - just loving prayers + hopeful vibes. You voted an overwhelming yes… so here they are… I recorded these videos almost 2 years ago for a lady on instagram who asked me how I tied my headscarves. She was about to lose her hair having started chemo and she didn’t know where to start with headscarves and wigs. Fast forward 18 months and I’ve forwarded the videos to hundreds of ladies who were just starting out on their hair loss journey … clearly they’re a little faster than normal 🤣. I had so much support from ladies who had walked this path before me… so I’ve always seen it as my duty to pay it forward. I woke up to this message yesterday from someone I shared them with… “I am building in confidence. Worn a scarf out for a week and nobody has really bat an eyelid. Holding my head high and think I’ll get used to it! Excuse to go shopping. When I was diagnosed with Triple Negative at 33, people kept telling me how strong I was.⁠ ⁠ “You’ve got this.”⁠ “You’re a fighter.”⁠ “You're so brave”⁠ ⁠ And I know it came from love.⁠ ⁠ But if I’m honest?⁠ ⁠ Those words were triggering.⁠ ⁠ Because what’s the alternative?⁠ ⁠ I have to have this.⁠ I don’t want this.⁠ I don’t get to opt out.⁠ ⁠ Being called strong can feel like a compliment.⁠ But sometimes it feels like pressure.⁠ ⁠ Like you’re not allowed to fall apart.⁠ Like you’re supposed to carry it well. ⁠ I didn’t feel strong waking up from surgery.⁠ I didn't feel strong leaving chemo treatments. I didn't feel strong laying under a beam of radiation. ⁠ I felt scared.⁠ Disoriented.⁠ Changed. ⁠ And if you’ve ever been told how strong you are when you felt anything but… I see you.⁠ ⁠ Strength doesn’t always roar. Sometimes it’s just breathing through something you never wanted.⁠ ⁠ If TNBC is part of your story, you don’t have to perform strength here because no one fights alone 💗

Triple negative bc has an extremely high recurrence rate in the first 5 years post diagnosis. It’s a huge mental challenge coping with that as a survivor. After those 5 years, recurrence rates drop dramatically. I’m so happy this season is over and I can continue to move on from what was the worse experience of my life. In late February of this year, my world came crashing down when we were told my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer… and not just breast cancer, but triple negative—the more aggressive kind. I didn’t share it publicly, and even talking about it with friends was hard without falling into pieces. It was tough to get out of bed… to eat… I didn’t know how to process the news. But one thing I did know was that we had to keep showing up for my mom—so she never felt like she was doing this on her own. As a family, we’re stronger together, and by the grace of God, anything is possible. Through the darkness and uncertainty, leaning into my faith is what kept me going and brought me peace. And my mom’s faith and calmness through it all were so inspiring to witness, I could only wish to be half the woman she is. Today is Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) day! I was originally diagnosed with hormone positive early stage breast cancer in 2016 before the cancer returned as stage 4 in 2021. After having progression with my first line of treatment, I got a liver biopsy and found out the cancer mutated to triple negative, an extremely aggressive subtype with limited treatment options available. I got 15 months out of my 2nd line of treatment and went in for another liver biopsy to find the cancer mutated once again to HER2 positive🤯 My team believes I likely have a mix of multiple subtypes and I know one day I could very well be back on treatments for MTNBC and rely heavily on more research in this area. That's why I'm fundraising this month for the @tnbcfoundation where they will be putting 100% of donations towards triple negative breast cancer research! Three things I wish I knew about TNBC: ◇TNBC is a highly aggressive and misunderstood subtype of breast cancer. It's not fueled by the 3 common receptors - estrogen, progesterone or HER2 - and doesn't respond to hormone therapy or medicines that target the HER2 protein. ◇While there's more research being focused in this area, it still has the poorest survival outcomes out of all breast cancer subtypes. There's still so much we need to do to find out what feeds this subtype and improve survival outcomes. ◇Cancer can and does mutate and lose receptors. Freaking. Airball. 💨 🏀 Truth be told, I kinda bought into it: Stage one IS a good prognosis, I WAS grateful for that, & I DID hope it might really be as “easy” as possible. 🌟But NOW, after nearly 6 years of chemotherapy, triple negative, hysterectomy, BRCA1, complications, infections, 15 surgeries, hernias, constant cancer scans, chronic illnesses… 🌟NOW when people hear my cancer was “stage 1” they are stunned and say things like: 👉🏻”Are you serious? I thought it was stage 4 or something” 👉🏻”All of that just from stage ONE?” 👉🏻”That seems impossible that stage 1 could cause so much damage” And again, I agree. 🌟A few things I’ve learned through breast cancer: 👉🏻EVERY stage is a big deal 👉🏻NO cancer is “easy” 👉🏻Breast cancer is traumatic from diagnosis through treatment & for long after too 👉🏻Just because you are “NED—No Evidence of Disease” doesn’t mean it’s in any way OVER 👉🏻ALL cancer changes most of us profoundly, forever ❤️So next time you hear “stage 1,” it’s ok to be grateful it’s not “worse,” but maybe don’t suggest that it will in any way be “easy” ❓SHARE if you Relate to this.
