My reharm of YOU WON’T FORGET ME 🎼 Let’s establish a timeline for the background story on this one 👇 ⏱️ sometime in the late 80s/early 90s: I grew up listening to my parent’s record collection which included many Shirley Horn albums, like Loads Of Love, Horn With Horns, Travelin’ Light, Here’s To Life, You’re My Thrill …. and YOU WON’T FORGET ME: The title track w/ @milesdavis is still one of my all time fav recordings in music, period. ⌚️ March 2010 I transcribed Shirley’s version and added a little reharm at last two bars of the form. We tried this during the recording session for my album GLOW at @deutschlandfunkkultur studio. This take didn’t make it on the record, but…. ⏰ November 2011 … it ended up the debut album of my friend Sebastian Gille on #pirouetrecords . ⏲️ October 2023 a few days before the recording of TRIO PLAYS STANDARDS I decided to revisit my 2010 arrangement of the tune. 🕰️ Then, in the night before the recording, I couldn’t sleep. So I got up and (finally) transcribed the original version of this tune from the movie “Torch Song“, sung by #joancrawford . This inspired me to write a whole new reharm before I went to breakfast. I made a chart for Robert, Jonas and myself and then we drove to the studio. 📌 Mind you, this version was still in 4/4. Right before we started recording I had the idea to try this in 3/4 and that’s what ended up on the album.
