Dorsal fin collapse Captive orcas spend 70–80% of their time at the surface, which limits the time their dorsal fins are supported and can cause them to collapse over time. Difficulty adapting to the wild Orcas raised in captivity may have difficulty adapting to the wild if released, such as catching wild prey because they weren’t trained by their families. I have been receiving comments from this trial reel because apparently the caption “plays” with fear factor about an animal that has never killed a human in the wild. And honestly, I think whoever thinks that these are cute animals that would never chose to harm humans because of the purity of their heart is as naive as it can get. These are APEX predators. The only reason we are alive when we come out of the water is because they chose to, and the reason for that is still disputed. Some say, they are smart enough to know we can be as mean as them. Others claim we are just a bag of bones which doesnt really appeal to them. Whatever the reason is, the reality is that I feel like its almost a lack of respect to claim we are “safe” while sharing the water with them. We are not talking about just big dolphins, but one of the smartest and most powerful predators that has ever existed, and just because historically people have jumped in the water and no incident has taken place, it doesnt mean that it could NEVER happen. Orcas have CULTURE, as we have. They learn, experiment, teach and pass on their own knowledge through generations. And culture, just like in our society, evolves. Who says that one act cannot change the way they interact with us forever? Why are we so arrogant to believe that nothing will never happen? With this, I dont pretend to say we should fear and avoid Orcas. Cuando las orcas se alimentan en Península Valdés un montón de otros animales se benefician. Acá se ve como una gaviota cocinera picotea de los restos de un lobo marino hasta que Jaluel, un enorme macho, vuelve a buscar su comida. Hoy fue un día increíble en Punta Norte donde pudimos ver 16 orcas y filmar algunas capturas increíbles. Realmente me siento afortunado de poder vivir esto. 🥰
