From the @wshupublicradio newsroom: The #osprey population on Long Island’s East End remains healthy, according to a triennial survey by Group for the East End. Staff and volunteers documented 385 active nesting pairs this summer. That’s a 9% increase from their last survey in 2022. More at WSHU.org

Fish is in the air at the Hellgate Osprey nest in Missoula, Montana. Iris has been spending time with a male Osprey since April 18. Based on behavior and physical characteristics, this may be the young male seen with Iris at the end of last season, returning to the Hellgate nest after migration. The potential pair seems to have picked up where they left off, as the male delivers a large fish to Iris at the nest. Courtship feeding is one way Ospreys form and maintain pair bonds.
