It felt like a waste having my fabric samples from @spoonflower sitting in a bin, but for the longest while I couldn’t decide what to do with them. Now, I’ve hemmed curtains and clothes, made throw pillows and taken on countless simple sewing tasks. But making a quilted patchwork tote, with my own patterns no less? This was a first. And I was excited by the challenge. Getting caught up in the process (careful not to make any mistakes), came at the cost of properly documenting the whole project, but hopefully you get the gist. I started by arranging my squares of fabric, then sewed them together and backed it all with cotton batting. Once the ends were sewn to create an envelope, I cut 3” squares from the bottom corners and sewed the openings, to create a base for the tote. I then cut and quilted strips of fabric for the straps and stitched them to the bag’s exterior. With the same measurements and similar process as the exterior of the tote, I created a lining, complete with a simple pocket detail. Finally, I turned the bag right-side-out, inserted the lining and sewed the layers together along the opening. I’m so excited to walk around with my one of a kind bag!
